Default How to Double Unit Sizes.

I do not take credit for this, it was posted in the official TW forums -- here is the link. http://forums.totalwar.com/showthrea...ight=unit+size

    Anyway,

    - Using SFEditor 1.0.7, open a save, I recommend you backup the save before editing.

    - Tab through compressed_data/campaign_env/campaign_setup/campaign_setup_options

    - Change the 2nd number from 1 to 2

Now, all of your newly recruited troops should have twice the number of men in them. For instance, a unit of hoplites will contained 320 men, rather than 160.

Promising, I will get round to trying this for sure.

Any ideas on a full multiplier? Garrisons and all without editing your save game - just as a one time edit?

I've only done a few land battles so far, but it seems to be identical to vanilla.

Ok, cool. Then a garrison multiplier would probably work, too, in theory at least. It still breaks naval combat somehow. It would be interesting to know whether using multiplier influences replenish rates.

    So it is horrible

But seriously +rep and all that. Good find. It's not like I need more units to chip away on the performance but larger units might lead to longer fights!

How does this affect the ships? Can they hold the double sized units?

Haven't done a navy battle with it yet, but if Shogun 2 is any indication, the navy crew will just be more 'crunched up' on the ships.

The actual solution is said to increase the number of troop ships (not navy ships) by the number used for the unit multiplier.*

*I haven't tested it for I am still waiting for royal mail.

It works! Doubles the size of newly recruited ships as well. The double units get 2 ships which are loosely linked together. You can't order them individually, but it's not too janky or anything. Garrison forces stay vanilla sized though. Thanks so much for finding this!!!!

I had to mess with the SF editor a bit because it didn't save the first time. I forgot that its a bit wonky to use.

Does loosly linked together mean they react similtaneously?

Yes. The only issue i've seen so far is that they bump into each other if you try to do a 180. Doesn't crash the game or anything, just not as agile as a single ship. It's hard to explain, but it's pretty much fine. I've never seen anything like it in TW before but there are 2 ships that are part of one unit card. Think of a land unit with multiple individuals that respond to one banner's orders. Looks like CA anticipated the unit multipliers being used, so that's good.

It will also double the number of ships in a given ship-unit. So instead of 2 biremes, you get two. They work fine together, so no fears. Appears CA anticipated this, or had planned on having multiple ships per unit during development.
