While Rome II has had some disappointments, such as battles ending too quickly, 1yptr and no seasons, I was actually quite impressed by how well their Skirmish units worked.
I remember the first time I fired up my Campaign as Rome in Rome II, and saw that I had no archers, but just a bunch of Javelin men. I was like "Ohhh, this is going to be PAINFUL!", I thought to myself, as memories flashed back to me from Medieval 2.
But when I actually used the units, they really impressed me! Units were quick to respond to commands and did not shuffle around. When ordered to fire at the enemy, they did so immediately.
Skirmish Mode hasn't failed me a single time so far. Everytime my Javelin men have been charged by infantry, they have always turned and run like any non-retarded person would, as opposed to ME2 where they often would just stand around like idiots and get slaughtered.
The only time my Skirmishers were ever caught by the enemy in melee was when I personally forgot to enable Skirmish Mode.
The unit I thought I'd end up hating actually turned out to be one of my favorite units in the game, and I am really pleased by it!
Also, I really like how the Voice Acting has been improved. I haven't cringed a single time when listening to the units/commentators so far!
