Can someone tell me how to put my units in loose/tight formations? I can't figure out if this is even part of the game anymore.
CA removed that option. They also removed guard mode.
The fact you can only through pilas while running, is ridiculous. On top of the music being disappointing I miss Jeff.

Why do you need loose formations when the ai is suicidal.
It seems clear that the features of guard mode are built into each culture, permanently. The roman legion in the Prologue fights in much closer order than the Suebi for example, which don't even bother trying to maintain formation. If you want to simulate guard mode with Suebi, you use Shield Wall and it's basically the same you just can't move. Perhaps the Testudo bug is just that - a Testudo bug - because I used shield wall in a siege and lost about 30 guys (out of six regiments) to ranged fire.
I also tried a hoplite phalax against a Suebian sword unit and the Phalanx did a reasonable job holding a rectangle, except the Suebi eventually tore it apart - encircling it and making it bend in the flanks and middle. It's not an I Win button and it looked as reasonable as the Warsacpe engine can handle with the MoCap.
I imagine loose/tight is along those lines - a permanent feature of the unit and not selected directly unless they have a special formation for it.
