Default Game's beginning to grow on me, but...

I'm beginning to like the game more as time goes by, but a couple of things occurred to me while playing tonight:

First off, anyone remember Lusted saying that even though the game is one turn per year, they'll still model seasons? Anyone seen any evidence of that at all, because I haven't. Several turns have gone by and Italia has remained lush and green. No sign of winter whatsoever. I had my suspicions that Lusted was spinning a load of BS, now I'm even more sure.

Secondly, why no Blood DLC yet, CA? I would've thought that would be a Day One thing.

It does grow on you with time. A lot of the newer features has alienated long time fans of the series (of which I am one - I've being playing since the first Shogun) but the more you play, the more you get used to them.

    :raised hand shyly: I do....

I still want guard mode, loose formation, fire at will for Roman melee infantry, etc etc... I like the cards though, just not how big they are.

I actually think the Campaign gameplay is a great improvement over earlier titles. Pretty much my only pet peeve is the technology tree(realistically, a faction tends to develop military, culture and industry at the same time. It just feels a little unrefined)

But I have to admit, I think battles are a little too fast and disorganized(in a period famous for their formation fighting).

I think that if CA fix the formations and make battles last a little bit longer, then Rome II would be truly GREAT! (of course, we'll still need those Season/Blood DLCs!)

Agreed - the changes made on the Campaign map are mostly very good. I'm a bit confused as to why all spies appear to be women though...

So far, I haven't had any really large battles yet they're still running for fifteen to twenty minutes - the battle speed is improved over Shogun 2 from what I can see and the troops don't scuttle like ants any more either.

And I love that the general's speech is delivered after the battle has started - let's face it they were often skipped after the first few times you'd heard them. The attention to detail in this game is amazing; they must have recorded so much speech for the soldiers that are just standing around, because the only line I've heard twice is 'shall we kill them now' (when chasing routers). Speaking of routers however, it's disappointing to see that cavalry are still crap at chasing them down.

As for seasons on the battlemap, I haven't seen any evidence of that at all. I can't see any modelling of seasons on the campaign map or the battlemap. Two turns per year had to be the minimum, CA! Maybe the modders can do something about that, but I'm not sure they can mod actual seasons in if there aren't any in the game to start with...

I think Jack said that season's would be represented on the battle map, though not sure...

In my campaign as Pontus I've come across different seasons on the campaign map. In some turns there is snow in the steppes and some turns it's grassy. I would think that these types of changes only happens in the more extreme/border regions tho.

I think Lusted meant seasons during battles. But it's really just dry, rain, or fog.

I was expecting the unit cards to be a little iffy, but the second I got my hands on them I fell in love. Definitely the best unit cards ever. About the seasons, I could swear I've played a battle or two in winter. I'm not entirely sure, though, so don't quote me on that.

One thing I still hate and will always hate - the capture points on open battlefields. They're nothing but a very cheap way to win or lose.

I love the added stacked stances. AI is a little predictable but it certainly adds another dimension to the campaign game.
