Seriously you guys are incredible. The Game isn't perfect, but IT IS actually quite good, especially for a basically just released version. On top of that they just said they're gonna release basically patch after patch which is always a good thing and still everybody is whining and screaming around like in Kindergarten.
Oh, I deserve perfection, for, you see, it is I, the big "insert your name here"
pathetic
Well i think i at least deserve to be able to play the game on low setting since i paid 60 euros.
And i have a medium-end laptop since i could run shogun 2 on high setting easily , while now on low setting i just get immense stuttering.
Let me tell you one thing...EU4 is a good day one game...it did have some balancing issue but it was perfecty playable
Does EU4 have good graphics - No
Does EU4 have a detailed campaign map (Graphically) - Not really.
Does EU4 have large scale tactical battles - No
It doesn't really require to much in regards to graphics, it is really a cpu intensive game which you won't have to many compatibility issues with.
Eu4 uses the same engine as Crusader kings 2, eu3, victoria and others. The engine is tried and tested over many games and the graphics don't need to be great so they don't need to use the latest tech in that regards.
Total war games on the other hand are pushing the boundaries of rendering thousands of high quality models on the screen at once whilst trying to get them to play nicely. There is a huge difference.
People aren't bashing the game because it isn't perfect. They're bashing it because it's a buggy mess with some seriously awful design decisions, and it almost feels like they tried to make this into Total War: Arcade. The single worst decision (and honestly, the one that isn't getting the attention it deserves, in my opinion) is the inclusion of capture points on field battles. It would be one thing if those points simply gave you bonuses, as in Shogun 2. But when they win the battle for you automatically, as in Rome 2, then they basically eliminate the point of positioning your units on good terrain.
Aside from that, as other people are mentioning, the battles move way too damn fast. Pathfinding for ships is almost completelyed, which I find puzzling since they had largely gotten that right by the time Shogun 2 came out. I even had a unit get a siege ladder stuck on the corner of a wall, making it completely impossible for them to actually use the damn thing.
I want to love this game. Seriously. This could have easily been the best Total War game by a mile. The new city engine is great, aside from small glitches like the siege tower one that I mentioned. Units seem to have no trouble maneuvering around once they're actually inside the city, because I got them on top of, and off of a wall like nothing. But then the battles falter because of the ridiculously fast battle pace, the complete breaking of unit cohesion as soon as melee is engaged, and the completely inexplicable removal of features that have literally been in every single game in the series, such as Fire At Will, Guard mode, etc. Even then, I was willing to tolerate most of that and still have fun with the game, until I encountered capture points that award the enemy instant victory on a field battle. That was the breaking point for me. I think I might have said it before, but until there's a patch or a mod that gets rid of the capture points, I have almost no desire to play this game. That is a damn shame, because the last time I was as psyched for a game as I was for this one, was with Rome 1.
The easy solution is to defend the capture points.
Not sure why that's so hard. If your army can't defend the points, you aren't going to defeat the enemy anyway.
No kidding. The point is the capture points shouldn't exist in the first place. They remove any semblance of strategic deployment and tactics from the battles.
Every battle on earth has been fought with things like terrain and topography in mind. Not some arbitrary "Fight Here!" sign that someone planted in the middle of a field.
See dude there is somethig called strategy :
1.You have an inferior army but there is a hill you can defend and you could win ... got it ?
2.The capture point is not on the hill ... got it ?
3.You can't defend the hill because you need to defend the capture point ...

"Captain, I want you to get your men into the middle of that open field over there. You've got to hold the middle of that field!"
"But sir, we've got a strong defensive position here -- why would we move to the middle of an open field?"
"Just do it, damn you man! Do it!"
Glad to see the point flew miles above your head.
The point isn't one's ability to defend the capture point. It's that the points themselves are stupid, artificial constraints with no basis in reality that the developers place on you, and they...you know what? I've already said it more than once, and I'm not gonna keep repeating myself past this post. The long and short of it is that capture points on field battles merely makes it impossible for you to gain a tactical advantage via terrain, especially when they're placed on the most unfavorable terrain. The series may not have been the pinnacle of realism throughout its history, but this just turns it into a BS arcadey slugfest where battles are more a contest of brute force than of knowing how to use your units in the most effective manner possible.
I agree. There's a part of me that wants to really love this game and there's another part that feels a little disappointed. CA really needs to focus on what works and what does not in TW. Removing features that work and that no one has a problem with is a bummer. Hey, at least Rome 2: Total Realism is coming.
If your think this game is even approaching quite good I don't know what standards you seem to hold in life.
If I pay money for a game, I expect it to be finished and playable on release.
Otherwise CA should be happy to get my money on 5% installments until they've patched the game to the point it's actually not a deplorable mess.
Graig reminds me of that Iraqi minister during the second Gulf War lol

No, but seriously; CA is doing a great job, and the reason why only see so many hate posts is because the people who are happy and content with the game are too busy playing it to bother wasting their time on an internet forum. Comfort reduces participation![]()

Dont forget to thank Graig and Jack for being here for us lol
