CA Developer Icon Regular updates inbound! First patch coming Friday

At Creative Assembly we are very pleased with the response to ROME II, with hundreds of thousands of players enjoying the game so far; but we do know that, as with all large PC releases, the variety of hardware and general system specifications can cause issues for some people and we are urgently working to help get them the right experience. As announced last month, we are also planning to tweak the balancing, AI routines and other features now that we’re getting real-time metric feedback from thousands of players. The result is that the first update to the game will drop this Friday, with the intention to update the game on a weekly basis in the immediate future.Full patch notes will be available on Friday, but the update will address known instances of crashes due to hardware conflicts alongside several other performance fixes. In addition, anyone experiencing graphical issues including low resolution textures, should check our support forums at www.totalwar.com/rome2support which contain suggestions for settings which will improve visuals in almost all cases. There are also a variety of other fixes suggested in our support forum, please head there to find out more or report your own problem directly to the CA team who will assist you. Thanks, Craig

Craig - please give us an option to turn off the projectile trails, the impact puffs and the capture points on open field battles as they're rubbish and turn open field battles into a complete farce.
OPEN BATTLEFIELD CAPTURE POINTS AND IMPACT PUFFS HAVE GOT TO GO!
REVERT INFANTRY THROWING PILAE TO ROME TW'S SYSTEM AS IT WAS PERFECT!

There's an option in the Battle Interface.

Yeah... They did that already. Guess you can have one less giant all caps bold line of text in your sig...

Craig, thanks for the update regarding the update. Loving the game so far.

Dominion of Dust. A city of sand. Built your world of nothing. So how long did it stand?
A 100 years? Now wasn't it grand? Built your world of nothing. How long did it stand?
What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Did yourself right, so let's feel grand.
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Now there's nowhere left to stand.

Good news. I hope among the graphics issue you are considering including a "real now shadow" option to completly turn it off for older GPU, and avoid seeing the units all black from some directions.

and there aren't any capture points in open field battles, have you even played the game?! But yeah I hope battle speed is slowed down too, although I'm guessing this patch will just be fixing graphical/performance issues.

Uhh, yes there are. Apparently you haven't played the game very much at all. I found out the hard way that there are capture points in open field battles:

I was defending, and put my guys up on the hill like any normal human being would, expecting the AI to have to dislodge me from there. Instead, they send their guys to what I (belatedly) realized was a capture point, and when they took it, the game gave me 50 seconds to take it back, which was nowhere near enough time. Unless one of these patches completely gets rid of CPs in field battles, or at least gives you the option to disable them, I don't even want to play this game anymore.

Thank you. I know what I was talking about when I mentioned battlefield capture points but for some reason I couldn't take a Steam screenshot. These battlefield capture points are the single worst design decision in the history of TW and are clearly a hangover from MP - another example of how MP is ruining SP.

Incidentally, have archers got their range bonus when elevated in this game? I haven't found any archers yet.

Have you ever thought of doing stand-up, Craig? That remark is like Stewart Lee-level deadpan comedy.

My thoughts exactly, when I read that I had to pause and chuckle.

    Thanks for this fantastic game.
Even if I have no issue at all, any patch can for sure improve the game. I only hope you will not tone down any aspect just to let the game run on low end machines.

Again with the date declorations... just release the patch when it's ready, or else we'll get another unfinished product. Don't rush it so you can say "We got a patch out"
