I've played ALL the total war titles competitively for over 10 years and was greatly looking forward to this...

And thank you CA, it's brilliant. No idea what you guys are on about, campaign AI is fantastic, BAI seems greatly improved, graphics look great! Have ran it on 3 different systems and compared to shogun 2, runs faster and smoother in all three cases. Not one crash on any system in over 12 hours of play.

MP needs some balancing (I think!) but its only day 1, it will take a while for everyone to figure out their own strategies and armies.

Are there still some bugs, balance-issues and other things? Yes, of course, that's just the nature of computer games I'm afraid. I find it hilarious how there are so many nutjobs on this forum taking it like a life and death situation. Especially in regards to 'historical accuracy'. 99% of the people who buy the game will love it and don't sit on forums whining about how some unit doesn't have the right shield color or how unitX is underpowered and historically was stronger... no one cares.

I studied history for a few and this time period is also a big passion of mine. Do I whine about historical flaws though ? No! No one cares, just play it for the game it is and enjoy it.

    Cheers CA

It seems you have very limited experience with Total War games, as well as any other Strategy games. If this wasn't the case, then you'd realize the deep fundamental flaws that are occurring on an engine level, where it would require a complete overhaul of the system used to design the game to fix the issues present. Rome II will be along the same lines as Empire, we'll get a few half-assed patches that fix only the minor issues, and then we'll still be left with a broken game two years from now. After of course, shelling out a hundred USD or your Euro equivalent for DLC's and expansions that were originally designed alongside the original game, or pulled from production and put on ice for milking the game.

Does your dad work for CA? This companies sheer utter nerve to release a game in this state is bordering on fraud.
Shogun 2, no thanks I will stick with Kingdoms SS.

People are only so passionate because they want the game to be great, not because they hate CA for niggling issues. Even beyond things like the bugs and graphical problems, some of us don't like the way the game was designed, and feel it is a step backwards in many respects compared to their previous games. Many of us have been with CA from the start, and have been waiting for this game for close to a decade.

In other words, we hate because we love.

The game is rushed, undoubtedly. However, people over-exaggerate way too much. Their ignorance shines the most when they label the game to be the worst and define anyone who disagrees with them as being paid/bribed.

The game needs another several months, honestly. The actual game is very good, the potential is outstanding. But the bugs, AI inadequacy in some situations (especially not using Phalanx... What the ?), HORRIBLE optimization and some missing features (guard mode, fire at will for melee units) hold the game back. The mechanics for placing units on stone walls is TERRIBLE...

    This ^^

Also, I can't remember one single Total war game launch that hasn't been met by this kind of criticism

Yes there are obviously issues and I'm pretty sure everything is being read and dealt with.

I am hopeful a patch and new drivers will fix this mess but it just boggles my mind that a top drawer studio like this can release something this buggy. How can it worth it to skimp on the testing and endure all of this awful publicity? In a normal business heads would roll.

CA hyped up Rome II as much as humanly possible. Rome I was and still is considered one of the best, if not THE best TW game. CA used that idea and made it look as though this was going to be an absolutely fantastic experience, with all the aspects of TW that we love. They said that they were optimizing the engine to be able to render thousands of detailed untis on the battlefield. My FPS drops considerably when I'm looking at a melee of 300 units on medium/low settings. That's hardly thousands.

The AI improvements are minimal, and are in some cases worse than previous TW games. The AI just rushes you, and you win easily if you have units on the flanks (this on hard difficulty). The campaign AI sucks, from what I've been reading, because it runs away and spams slingers. Diplomacy has been improve somewhat, but not enough to carry the ridiculous number of problems.

We all paid a lot of money for this game, and pre-ordered. We put our trust in CA, because what they said and what they should us looked good. We have a right to be angry over this stupid release.

All Total War titles have had problems in some form, Rome II isn't the exception. It has some serous issues definitely worth criticism. I don't think it's a bad game and I don't think CA have yet to make an actual bad Total War game but launching a game with game breaking issues and huge performance issues and charging me £44.99, you kinda do feel pee'd off. You hype the thing for about a year and you can't play it.

Saying that though, the manner in which alot of the users on this forum present themselves and the attitude, stinks. I think some of you guys have some serious emotional issues and try to use CA and Total War as some weird psychological pin cushion.

The game is fine gents. have you not seen the media coverage over the past 12 months? have you guys not looked at the in depth vids? because i mite be on my own here but if you look at them then you know exactly what your getting. the game is great I think. Ive being playing TW games many many years and this is a really good game. yes people will hate.. this is because of many different reasons. I would take a wild guess that most of them is the PC they are ruining the game on. PC are all very different and the huge range of spec to cater for is mind blowing. Sometimes the game wont work right if you have a bad PC, this is because the PC they are ruining it on is finding it hard to process the game. Now if you have a great PC with top spec then you get to see little bugs here and there which is a natural process because its a new game gents lol. most of the PC that you guys are running will take CA a week or to so to fix little bugs and then down to the Graphic card devs to get the right drivers for the cards to work well. Its like firing a new rifle for the fist time guys. you have to zero it a few times to get it right for you, but once you do then all is good. As for the the people who hate the way the game was designed or the game engine.. what i would say there is.. you should of did your homework on the game first and watched the vid for god sake lol. it was the same when Shogun 2 came out. you swear you only seen the game for the first time the way people where going on. so as i said about Shogun 2 nuts. take of the tinfoil hat and sit down and relax. and come to the point and realize you are in this predicament because you did not look or pay attention to the game vids.

Its great that you've been able to play the game without a hitch and little to no bugs, but a large part of the community has not had that same experience. I myself have been able to run the game at a decent frame rate without any graphical glitches and I think the game froze on me once. I count myself lucky because some people are really stuck with a nigh-unplayable game. It's not really fair to generalize the fan base, saying 'no one cares' about historical accuracy, because CA employees themselves have stated that they do as well. It's more like you and I are part of a lucky minority, but I can't say I'm not disappointed seeing such things as the passive AI be present at release again after having seen it in Empire Total War and Medieval II

I also have had no crashes and no major bugs yet. I don't understand all the hate either. There is some issues that bug me, but I can tolerate them.

Those defending CA right now are exactly why the gaming industry is the way it is. Gamers are a fickle bunch, easily sold any steaming pile of garbage.
