This has to be the best tw/ game I have ever played and I would count myself as a tw pro. Played everyone, completed most factions on vh/h and found it easy. Rome 2 on vh/vh (I tested in custom, the Ai doesn't get boosts on higher difficulties in battles so I went for vh this time). The ai is exceptional. Saw none of the reported issues except the bug thatif you ride your ccavalry near the enemy early on they all chase it. So don't do it.

Graphics are superb if your pc is good enough, cai on vh is incredibly good. Lost rome once, only managed to hold on to two regions since starting because the ai keeps hitting me back. Seen very clever ai maneuvering.

Did I say bai is best yet??

That seems to be the consensus around here, unfortunately. The forums have been struck by civil war, with some bashing the game to no end, and some seeing it for the generally good game it is.

While I don't know if it's necessarily the "Best TW Game I've Played", I will say that I'm having fun. It needs some optimization, and I, like most, am eagerly awaiting mods, but so far I'm having a ton of fun. The AI has it's bad moments, but it also has its brilliant moments, the campaign is fun and challenging, the graphics are great, the combat is a bit quick, but mods will iron that out in no time, just like they did for Shogun. It's just generally a solid game (although I haven't suffered any of the issues many here seem to have suffered from, so bugs may detract severely from the game. But, patches and mods will be coming within the next days/weeks/months). I'd recommend it to my friends, at least, those who haven't already bought it.

Personally, I see two sides here. Oh wait no I don't, because the world isn't binary, and people can have good points on either side without completely invalidating the other.

The forum has made some points, however claiming that this is the worst Total War game so far is far from the truth. The AI in this game is about the same as Shogun 2's, sometimes even better, although, admittedly, sometimes much worse.

Edit: If you have a point to make, then say it in your own damn words. Don't twist mine. I admit that this game has its flaws. It has a general lack of optimization, bugs,and some imbalance, but it is not the utter garbage that everyone is claiming it is.

Even having a good computer doesn't mean you can run it, as has been shown on this forum.

My computer is just barely below the recommended settings (~960mb of vram,) yet the game is unplayable even on the lowest settings. Meanwhile, I can run Shogun 2 on maximum with barely a stutter.

So we can't really throw all the blame on poor hardware.

Saying that everyone who enjoys the game is an Apologist, or worse, a Company Intern, is flat out slander. Just because we don't agree with you doesn't mean you get to question our entire motivation for disagreeing with you. I disagree because I enjoy the game, not because I'm in bed with Creative Assembly.

The battles are the worst I've seen in a vanilla TW. I see what people are saying about the AI, I tried on VH, and just couldn't raise enough money to build a proper army. Restarted on Hard, and the AI is still a tough nut to crack. I'm not sure if this is just the result of the AI getting boosts to income and unit production though (I suspect it is).

Back to the battles though, they are just mush. All the units are mushy and fall apart as soon as they come into close contact. Battles are either all totally one sided, or two-sided massacres. The campaign map is fantastic, the province system is really cool, and mustering units straight to a general is awesome too. But the heart of a total war game is the battles, and Rome 2 feels like it fell flat on its face in that regard. No guard mode, benny hill run speed, and special ability click-a-thons. Basically everything I was worried about prior to release is matching my worst predictions.
