Default No one wants to trade... again.

Playing on Hard, of course, the same than for Shogun 2... even friendly factions just don't want to trade with me. And despite CA promises, there is no explanation for it. As Arverni, I was only able to get one agreement with Massalia, for 1400 gold... not really interesting (but that was a sub-objective so...).

Is there any way to see why the AI would accept or refuse treaties? Is there any tip beside showering them with money to get alliances and such? Being uber-powerful so you don't really care about diplomacy anymore? I could get that for alliances, but trade, why would my friendly land neighbours not want to trade?

Because hard difficulty, just as usual?

I played my first campaign as the iceni on normal. Nobody wanted to trade with me until I became a decent sized power. It was quite annoying as it meant my finances were tight. Even somebody with +40 relations would not accept a mutually beneficial trade agreement. I mean I wouldn't expect everybody to accept, but at least people who don't see me as a threat or are pissed at me.

The AI seems to be totally reluctant to conduct diplomacy. Like they're all ridiculously paranoid.

AI refuse to do anything that will remotely benefit player unless it is extremely profitable or out of necessity for resources. This brings back bad memories of how clan in Shogun will trade with you unless you have War Horses...

On campaign hard, about to restart, just feels stupid and pointless. Once Athens, Edetani, and whomever find me as a faction they immediately declare war, with no reasoning behind it. Seems really stupid, like as if realm-divide has kicked in from Shogun 2. EVERYONE is declaring war, for no reason. I subjugate Syracuse? Well, they simply attack again the next turn. I kinda knew this woudl happen, but I figured being the four game on Warscape they'd have these issues behind them. There are a few that don't declare war, but not even one will trade...

I hear you, playing as Sparta and every country I meet up with declare war on me despite being steadfast etc. It's about 20 now and rising. From Cimmera in the East, to Rome in the west, to Lugii in the north and Egypt in the south .

Very hard diplomacy is like playing with toddlers who don't know the definition of equivalent exchange.
    Their demands: 8000 coin
    Their offers: join war against...

    I fully agree with this.

The original Rome - everyone would trade with you for 'free'. Now I understand it is more realistic that not everyone should trade with you - but it's mutually beneficial - and nobody will trade with me so far on rome 2! (unless they offer it rather than me offering it)

    I'm on normal diffficulty

Plkaying as Rome on Hard difficulty I could only get one or two factions at a time to trade with me, until I fully controlled 2 provinces (Italia, and Cis-Alpina). Then I got a bunch of Iberian factions to trade with me. Syracuse, Athens, and Carthage all still refuse to trade though (Syarcuse canceled our trade agreement that was on by default after about 20 turns).

Yea why do I have to give up more than half of my treasury to get a trade agreement(a mutually beneficial agreement...) However everyone wants me to sign these nonaggression pacts for alot less cash. I have had the occasional small tribe/civ offer me trade agreements, but this shouldn't be so rare.

I want money, they want money, however they aren't interested in cooperating with me to make money. I don't get it....
Bactrians will be Big 8. "Farther East" means Bactria.
After the Iceni reveal expect the unexpected.

How about alliances - are people able to get them? I've not tried yet...

I've been bale to get the AI to agree to non-agression pacts, but any kind of alliance beyond that? Nope. I'm guessing diplomacy gets more responsive the later in the game you get though.

Alliances have been pretty easy, I even had one minor faction offer to become my client state as soon as I landed an army on their island. The AI has been improved, even if you still have to work a bit too hard for trade.

That sounds more like luck than improved AI. As Epirus, on normal, I ran a test where in the first turn I asked a neighbor with friendly relations with me for a trade agreement coupled with a payment from me for 40,000 and they still refused. They wouldn't go for a non-aggression pact either for the same 40,000.

Well the Diplomacy is betrer as it was but not perfect. Trading should be possinle with nations that are yellow. At least when you give a few Ks o denarii.

As the Arverni on normal I was able to get two trade partners: the Pictones (begin as defensive allies) and the Namnetes (they liked me a lot after destroying the Aedui and Carnutes). Most factions refuse to trade with me, even if they like me. Maybe I'm wrong on this one, but I believe I can't trade with coastal city based factions because I have no coastal cities of my own.....but there are roads leading to the coastal cities so I'm not sure what the obstacle is.

The Pictones and Namnetes have around 140-160 affinity towards my faction yet neither will agree to a military alliance, even with a hefty payment. Without that I can't get provincial bonuses. I don't want to betray them because that would negatively affect future diplomacy with other factions. Maybe I don't have a choice? Is there a magical number of regions you have to control to make factions your military allies? Or how many talents (I believe it's talents instead of denari) does it take to bribe them into it?

trade and minor agreements should be way easier to gain. major agreements...no idea, haven't had one yet (bad sign?)^^.

Playing as Iceni on Normal and it is a pain getting trade agreements - they'll accept if I also fork over 95% of my treasury ("You'll hardly notice it" their diplomat tells me!!)

I can only suspect it's because my regions currently have bugger all to trade to them.

Is there a way of seeing what resources your regions produce (not the 'trade' tab)?

More importantly, is there a way of seeing which resources your enemy's regions produce, so you can plan your economic conquest?
