Default Steam was just a great idea CA...

I am absolutely frustrated right now. I came home after an exhausting day of school and extra-curricular sports, install the game...and then find Steam is down. I suspect that it is because Steam was never rated to get so much traffic at one given point.

I was once a supporter of Steam and thought it a good idea, and even supported the DLC system. Now I'm not so sure. I live in a place that is very far from many games retailers, so being able to buy PC games I want and instantly download has been helpful. But now I think the downside of internet-connected games is rearing its ugly head. I'm assuming the Steam outage is from so many people downloading and playing the game. I was glad to get mine on disc, but it seems Steam won't let me play because it isn't updated and ready.

I just want a game that I can take out of the box and play again without an annoying internet tether. When stuff like this happens (in the case of a server overload), I am absolutely pissed. There is no excuse for why the server is failing, and I think there is no excuse for us being stuck to Steam which is prone to failing at stress.

Tomorrow I'll probably wake up and regret posting this, but whatever. I hate my games being part of a system prone to failure. The internet is too fragile for us to have our games stuck to it.

Steam had a scheduled maintenance for 15 minutes tonight. Pretty awful timing on their part, but it is up now.

It was just scheduled sentience and Steam was down for only a few minutes, no reason to pull out the torches and pitchforks.

I feel your pain OP. A long hot day at work, awful commute, finally get home open Steam and wait for the unpacking to complete aaaand crash. Most frustrating. And Dresden, I still can't seem to get into Steam. Further irritation.
Your reality sir, is lies and balderdash, and I'm happy to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever!

You're a fool if you think Steam hasn't had more traffic than the release of Rome II.

Whoever decided that people who buy solid copies of the game should have to install online and through steam anyways seriously, desperately, needs to be hunted down, shot and then strung up in the town center of wherever they live as an example of what not to ing do, this is so stupid, I bought this game 2 months ago, today is my birthday and the first day of school, and I got zero sleep last night, YOU STEAM AND CA

Steam is trying to connect still. This is absolutely frustrating. I am stuck on the "Connecting Steam Account:<MyAccountName>" box.

Came home from work, turned on computer, steam started fine. Popped in disk, entered code when prompted, says "CANNOT INSTALL GAME," with a cancel button. I try again, try to enter code, message pops up "CODE IS CURRENTLY IN USE ON THIS ACCOUNT." I click past that, it goes to the installer, I try to start it again "CANNOT INSTALL GAME," with a cancel button. No game in my steam library, tried to restart steam, now stuck at "Connecting to Steam Account ...." for the last 10 minutes.

Someone is cruising for a beheading.

And now that the game is finally installing, my Greece code from preorder won't work. Last time I support a brick and mortar shop.

Dude Steam just had maintenance and update, Rome 2 did not mesh with some things correctly, this is no valves fault.
Close steam, restart your computer, and open steam your problems will be solved.

I've been in constant dialogue with Steam Support since May, trying to resolve a connection problem. It's the third time a Steam update has locked me out for a long period of time.

    Would not reccomend.

Mine took a couple of hours to preload the other day. Then today I open R2 up, unpacks in less than five minutes. Playing the game five minutes after that.

Not complaining, just letting people know that not everyone is having a problem with steam. Now the game on the other hand...

Oh! And only 19 gigs on the ol' hard drive.

One thing that Steam desperately, desperately needs is the option to allow the player to download any patches, updates, DLC, etc when they want to. I want the option to download updates, I don't want Steam to make that choice for me. It is of course possible to select in the menu to stop Steam from making any updates to your game, but this option only becomes available after you've finished installing the game and downloading the day one patch (which can sometimes be several gigabytes in size). This is especially annoying when you want to jump right into the game, but aren't allowed to because Steam rather obnoxiously decides to download patches immediately after the game has finished installing. This especially bad when you have a poor internet service like mine, and the patch can take several hours or even days to download. If the PS3 and Xbox 360 can have this option, why can't Steam?
