What is the purpose of diamond formation for cavalry?
I understand that wedge formation is for disorganizing formations of enemy but what about diamond formation?

sort of a semi-wedge that works less well but can wheel and charge in any direction easily... or atleasst thats what i think its purpose is.

I prefer wedge formation, its more realistic...

I'm pretty sure the diamond formation wasn't even used at this time but, it was better then wedge formation because you could maneuver better, if you were surrounded it has more advantages then the wedge. basically does the same function as the wedge formation but you can move easier.

The rhomboid formation was the distinct trademark of the famed Thessalian cavalry.

diamond is useful when changing running direction; keeps group cohesion for faster turns.
