Default Quick take: for the long haul fan

I've been waiting for Rome 2 since basically Rome 1, and I've playing the Total War series since Shogun 1.

Overall this is a good release with some undeniable launch bumps and tech challenges. These kinds of games are really for the long haul fans, and they will be rewarded with many patches, dlc's and updates.

I believe the game will eventually come into it's own and become a classic. Unfortunately its going to take some patience from the user base and that is something that is in serious short supply these days. Those that stick it out I believe will be rewarded with a long term strategy game that will offer them a lot of fun and a rewarding experience for their gaming hobby needs.

Just my opinion of course, and I am enjoying the game, a lot but I am also definitely looking forward to what's down the line.

Ultimately, I think you're right in that eventually they'll hash everything out. But I can't help but wonder if it's a colossal miscalculation to release a game with as much of a pedigree and fanbase as RTW had with this many problems... I mean, for all intents and purposes this is like if Gabe released an unpolished HL3 and called it a game; I'd say RTW carries the same weight were strategy games are concerned.

As such, I believe this release is a total failure on the part of CA. Rather then forcing the release to go out today they should have spent many more months developing a completely polished work of art... not a work in progress. Romes legacy, demands more then a simple work in progress...

how can you as a long time TW like this game? Bugs aside (i'll forgive CA once again for not fixing a game before release) the UI is terrible, its the most obtrusive and unintuitive thing since M:TW, after the steady improvements from R:TW to empire and the control wheel, to S2 and the unlocked formations, adding things like sorting unit cards and the like, we went backwards 10 years in UI deveopment, took away guard mode (thats not a bug thats something that is never going to be in the game), fire at will for Javalin armed infantry, the unit cards take up 1/3 of my screen, the 50 billion abilites that have turned this into starcraft 2 rome edition, and a myyriad of other things make this the worst TW launch i have seen.
At least Empire failed because they were trying to improve things and do something totally different, they have done rome before, so why on earth did they fail so bad?
