Haven't bought the game yet but jesus that first impression thread is pretty hard to read..
Is anyone actually enjoying the game? What are some positives?

Just too lazy to post
Here's some advice, don't base opinions of big releases off of what users on fan (or even official) forums dedicated to the series say. Every franchise attracts people who despise it in flocks who gather in such places for some reason. If you'd believe those people most of the best games out there are apparently crap.
Rant/advice aside, I love it. I have to force myself to take breaks but I've had no significant problems, it actually runs better on high graphics than I thought it would, and there's a lot of good surprises that make the game fresh and exciting. If you actually like playing Total War games and have a somewhat decent computer you'd probably like Rome 2.
I'm not crazy, I'm the only one who's not crazy!

Well I don't really agree. The fan base is ofcourse very critical but it's better than all those 8 and 9's 'professional' reviews which are justimo. Did the reviewers even play the game? Or they just saw the title 'total war' and thought 'oh, well that can't be bad, right'?. Currently it is in an abysmal state. It can be patched eventually, but CA really shouldn't have released this. It was way too rushed. And if reviewers don't give an honest image, you have to rely on the fans.
This
Most players here are just full of stupid complaints.
I personally love the game. And to those that say expansion is a simple thing to do, no..it isn'tthe campaign map is literally HUGE and there is so many things you can do.
I'm playing the crap out of this game atm
The edges are too rounded like Civ4.Its been 'SEGA'IZED and the franchise is now lost.

Ditto what Hresvelgr said... I'm running the game smooth as silk and am having a blast with it!
I don't think the game is bad. It is definitely been geared down for a more diverse audience but there is still a lot of depth if you look for it. I'm about 50 turns into a Roman campaign and I'm playing at my own pace. I'm having a lot of fun with it. If you turn on the unlimited video memory the graphic issues people have been having clear up and it has been running fine, even better than before I turned it on. I still remember the release of Medieval 2 and that game got a lot of the same reception on this forum that this game has. I recommend giving it a shot, some stuff still needs a lot of work but I think overall you will find something you like about it!
My quick review with no details (because I'm lazy):
1. It isn't as good as I had hoped.
2. It isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be.
3. It is still fun.
4. I'm going to go play some more now.
Ive been playing it all day. ok so every now and again something WTF happens but it certainly doesnt and wont stop me from enjoying it
great game tbh, not perfect but as good as i was expecting

I am. I cannot figure out graphic issues but this forum solved graphic issues for ETW and STW2 so I wait and play as best I can while I wait. I have low fps and I do not know why. Yet I play it. Not for what it doesn't have but what it does.
I'm enjoying it when I can actually play it my only gripe is the textures are all low res. I did exactly as they said and nothing changed so its probably some kind of optimisation issue on the game's side I can play Shogun 2 on Ultra so it can't be THAT much of a step up since its the same engine
My advice: Don't take other people's advice, good or bad. Go on Youtube and watch some Campaign "Let's Plays" (I recommend lionheartx10) and formulate your own opinion, because you're the only one who can decide if it's worth it or not. I'm really enjoying the game despite it being rough around the edges in terms of AI, bugs, textures etc. and I think that once we get a few months worth of patches, this will be the best TW game in the past few years.
I am, but i would be enjoying it far more if it didn't take me between 1 to 2 mins to end a turn.If the game has any major flaws for me it's- End turn time- Fast paced battles. We all know by now how fast units break- And performance issues - which depends on each person's computer. For me it's mainly a laggy campaign map
I'll describe it as a hollowed out tree trunk that's been gilded in gold... it looks oh so charming and delightful on the outside with the variety of facial expressions and beauty detailing that's been done. But on the inside, where core mechanics are concerned like the diplomacy, battle ai, and the like it's severely lacking in improvements and even regressing in some regards. Not to mention the lack of optimization on the game itself which lends itself to the idea that they just threw this release together to meet a release date. All in all, I'm disappointed entirely. As the 13 year old boy who once woke up on a Christmas morning to Rome Total War under the tree, and subsequently spending hours upon hours playing it... this successor is, lacking in depth.Of course, you'll have people who'll shower praise to CA regardless of what's been released... And you'll also have people who are objectively displeased with the state of the release. In between the two there might be some sane opinions, along with some trolls and fan boys. Ultimately, it's up to you to filter out the shills and trolls and figure out whose you'll give merit too.
