Default Rome II battle cause computer freeze and crash

Hello, as title suggested, my Rome II keep crashing my computer when engaged in battle for some unknown reason.
(its random but I noticed it happens mostly when a unit is about to clash with another unit)
As I am overseas atm, I have to play on my laptop, and my laptop has been able to handle games such as the Mass Effects trilogy, fallout series and other Total War series fine, all on very high graphic settings, even the Rome II was on ultra high settings by default, I did try to set all my setting in low but it still occurs.
Dose anyone else have a fix for this problem?
    Many thanks in advance.
Reg: They've taken everything we had and what have they ever given us in return!?
Xerxes: The aqueduct. Reg: Oh yeah, yeah they gave us that. Yeah that's true.
    Activist 1: And the sanitation!
Stan: Oh yes...sanitation, Reg you remember what the city used to be like.
Reg: all right, that's two things that the Romans have done...
    Matthias: And the roads...
Reg: Well yes obviously the roads goes without saying. But apart from...
    Activist 2, 3, 4, 5: Irrigation...Medicine...Education...and the wine...
Francis: Yeah the wine. That's something we'd really miss if the Romans left.

Well Im not expert but I had the same problem when going to battles and fixed it. It seems that the game had directx11 features enabled by default and older cards make game to crash because cant support them. What I did was to (1) go to the config file C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Rome2\scripts\preferences.script.txt, (make a backup copy). (2) Open it and CTRL+F -> search for "directx". You will find something like this "gfx_enable_directx11 true; # gfx_enable_directx11 , Enable DirectX 11 rendering #". (3) Put "gfx_enable_directx11" to "false;" and delete next two. Careful to be separated right with "#" from rest. I dont know if this change is the best but worked. If someone is more expert on these things please help. Save and close the file (5) Start the game. Graphics should have changed to lowest. Go to graphics settings. Change what ever you wish but "shader model" should be on "3" and dont let you change it. Done. Hope this helps.

Well you can change the graphics settings freelly when you enter the game. It will still be a bit dumped down due to shader model 3 and maybe some other reasons too but will be playable. Glad that I helped.

Like in 3 threads previously, have you changed the card that processes the game from integrated one to 5730? Make sure you do that in ATI Control panel. Give it a try in the game after that.

Hi c.ryo, can you elaborate a bit more or perhaps provide a link to the method of your suggestion please.
    Thanks.
