    Default Epirus Role-playing

    Hi,

Pyrrhos just died. His son Ptolemaios is a great choice to become King. However, the rest of the Molossians leave a lot to be desired. When I played Makedon, I would only keep Argeades in the the family. But as Epirus, I have adopted a couple Chaons and Theopos...(?).

So, this is strictly out of curiosity, when you play Epirus, do you let the Succession pass on to a new line or keep it in the Molossian line even if they're duds.

    thanks

With any of the factions I play with, I sometimes keep the heir in the family if they are good enough. I often groom the heir by having them lead my main army into battle in order to increase their generalship and influence, usually leaving the faction leader in the capital for the best cash flow and order
However, if a really good candidate comes up who isn't a member of the royal family, I make them heir and create a new family. For example, in my Epirus campaign, I adopted a captain promoted to general from the Roman front and made him the heir because his traits were impressive and showed much promise. He ended up being one of the best kings I had, expanding the borders to their greatest extent

The rule I use is that the eldest son of the king is the automatic heir. Unless he's both Dull and Uncharismatic (the two leadership skills). This would make him stupid enough and unpopular enough to be vulnerable to being politically outmaneuvered by a very talented family member who is Sharp, Charismatic and Vigorous (the challenger must have all three).

I figure if the heir is Sharp but Uncharismatic, then he's too smart to be tricked out of his inheritance even if he's unpopular, and if he's Charismatic but Dull, then his loyal followers and friends will warn him of the impending danger that he's too stupid to recognise for himself in time for him to take action.

Being Vigorous doesn't help you if you're Dull, because you will likely energetically pursue the wrong course of action, or you might vigorously charge into overwhelming odds and get yourself killed.

    thanks for the replies guys.

i like that rule about challengers to the throne.
i usually pass over Dull and langorous heirs. I hate lazy bastards.
i've decided to keep my royal family Molossian.
I ended up getting flooded with great choices to adopt other ethnic FM's. But I only decided to accept 4.
I've passed over some awesome choices as heir to keep the rulers Molossian.
