Help plugging my PSU to my GPU

Guys how do I plug my PSU's split PCI-E 6+2 into my GPU? Basically the cable splits into two 6+2 outlet slots and I'm pretty sure it's meant for dual cards and not for both to go into the same card, or does it?

Having some real difficulty putting my PC together, or my Dad is lol, I have no idea what to do and just left him to it.

I will probably have some more questions a bit later on

if your GPU has those 2 slots like in the picture, then yes both ends of the PCI-E 6+2 go into your gpu

Cheers for the response Kami, yes my GPU does have two slots exactly as pictured. So I assume I plug both ends of the PCIE 6+2 into the slots and leave the spare +2 bits hanging out?
