Some more varied and larger starting armies, as well as a larger starting pool of different units would be awesome.

Also, buff Carthage. Seriously, gets taken over in every single game by the garamantines.

If this mod team will add clasic hoplites in rosters then it must not have the title Total Realism...
Clasic hoplites were extinged that time!
TGC in order to continue its development seak one or more desicated scripters to put our campaign scripts mess to an order plus to create new events and create the finall missing factions recruitment system. In return TGC will give permision to those that will help to use its material stepe by step. The result will be a fully released TGC plus many mods that will benefit TGC's material.
Despite the mod is dead does not mean that anyone can use its material
    read this to avoid misunderstandings.

IWTE tool master and world txt one like this, needed inorder to release TGC 1.0 official to help TWC to survive.
Adding MARKA HORSES in your mod and create new varietions of them. Tutorial RESTORED.

Hoplite existed for as long as independent Greek military organisations existed. Maybe they didn't carry an aspis.... but they were still Hoplite.

Let me learn you some basic Hellenic(Greek). Aspis= shield of any kind. Hoplon = round shield with/without side openings (early Argos hoplon) , with highly curved surface and complex structure . Peltee or Pelta = Round or semi cycled shield (originaly ment small shields made by willow twigs). Later described shalow small or medium round shields made from metal. Thyreos = High and wide ( often square) shield used originaly by Mycenean world phalanx warriors. Later described the high gaulish or roman shields. Hoplite= Warrior that uses Hoplon shield (originaly from early 8th century to early 3rd cent BC). ps: Hellenistic warriors like Seleukid elephant escords with large metal round shields were NOT hoplites. Their shields were wider/biger versions of metal phalangites peltas! Shalow shield that could be used by cavalry also (Citizen Cavalry). Hoplon in NO case could be used by horsemen thanks to its structure. Hypaspists (royal pallace guards) were the last Hellenic "hoplites"... Strangely hoplon was used a while after in Sicely and Magna Grecia ...Also in Italy. But no nation used those warriors of it as clasic hoplite in clasic phalanx. The metal shields phalangites used was know as pelta since Ificratis made that 1st version of them for Athens. Yes Phalangites of Phillip II were version of Ificratian warriors. Conclusion. The last clasic hoplites fought with or against Alexander the Great (he had 25000 of them) and later for a while with Phyrros in his campaign in Italy.
You must understand -no matter how hard is for you- that Hellenistic world had not the time , the human resources and the money to have Hoplites.
Even hellenistic huge phalangites phalanxes were inferior to those of Phillip II and Alexander III the Great.
Sarissa "pike" ensured that half or non trained soldiers could hold a front untill cavalry will interfear.

The word Hoplite is generic for us modern people but not for Hellenic or Hellenistic world. That is why you wont find this warrior description in any text of the hellenistic era.
You will come across with thyreophoroi, peltastae, argyraspides etc...but not "Hoplite". Ancient Greeks were accurate when they spoke or wrote for something.

I'm not sure why you're getting so worked up about it... I think you're wrong anyway.

Hoplitai can easily mean just Citizen Soldier, or Armoured Soldier. It doesn't have to be an Argive Aspis wielding warrior/soldier. Phalagnites were called Hoplitai many times by contemporaries (HELLENIC contemporaries, mind you), same with Thureophoroi, which proves my point rather well.

To the Greeks, a Hoplitai wasn't a warrior that specifically wielded that shield, it seems to have just been a general citizen soldier armed with heavy equipment.

I know what the language makes it sound like, but words evolve to mean different things, especially with units/soldier/warrior classes and types (another classic example, the Roman Hastatus).

Prove me wrong, without saying "but the words say it is".

I wont prove you wrong.... Arian ,Polivius and all early Roman scholars prove you wrong.... I do not know how extensive your knowlege with Mykenian, Dark Age, Clasic and Hellenistic Hellenic(Greek) history is but... Hellenes (Greeks) were presise when they described ANYTHING.... Hoplites in Dark Age and Clasic Greek world was the "owner" of a Hoplon shield. Usually he was part of his city aristocracy or simply a citizen of high finansial capacity in order to have a hoplon shield that costed 200% more than the rest of his armor ! No ALL citizens were Hoplites but 90% of them were "soldiers". The larger Hoplite number gathered FROM ENTIRE SOUTH GREECE was 38000 of 110000 "soldiers" in Plateae battle. The rest were "peltastae", psiloi, sphendonitae, accontistae etc BUT not Hoplites. Athens had an army of 80000 men in it peak but only 11000 hoplites each time! Themistocles gave the poor citizens the right to serve their city as soldiers as rowers!!!!!!!!!! NOT HOPLITES!!!!!!! But near the end of the Pelloponisian war when ALL cities were close to bankcrupsy , Athens required a "cheaper" kind of warriors to replace Hoplites because there were not enough money to produse hoplons or time to train Hoplites. Ifficrati screated this!

The man in the right is not a Hoplite.
His shield is a bigger version of Phalangites pelta.

Hellenic millitary language and history are my experties with Medieval Roman (you call it Byzantine) history.

Please make transverse crests for centurions! I find it very disappointing that the best soldiers in the legions were so poorly represented

Fanest: making legionaries to throw at will (same way as skirmishers) might not be that easy, as it looks like this behavior is linked with skirmish class units only. Changing Legionaries to skirmish class would have other quite problematic results like them retreating from fight to keep distance... only hope is CA will implement fire at will for melee units without skirmishing behavior enabled..

hmm, well skirmish ability can be removed -i have seen mods that remove certain abilities from units, so imo that shouldn't be a problem

also skirmishers on ships also don't have skirmish ability so imo this is doable

I hope you can get rid of the Transformers that CA has put into this game. I don't think we had land armies that could dive into the water anywhere there was beach and sail across the world in a moment's notice until the digital age.

This is by far one of the terribly thought out features that has to go. I could be wrong, but I really don't think any army in history without access to ship engineers, shipyard and abundance of materials and experienced crewmen were able to construct an entire transport fleet on any random beach in the world they felt like. Especially not smaller tribes who'd never even seen the ocean before.

I still think the best way to handle this is make the transport ships constructable in port which has to then sail to where the army is camped and then severely nerf their capabilities in battle. This pretty much solves every issue regarding the transformers and it makes sense.

Transformers are imo one of the best features of the game. They are just to cheap and to strong in battle.
