Default Where are all my other colourblind people at!

    Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum but have played total war games for a long time. One thing that I have been noticing from watching the videos and pictures posted by CA is that I have had a tougher time distinguishing between friendly and enemy forces more so then in previous games. Maybe its that the graphics settings on the computers they were filmed on were low or something or maybe its because they are now using shades of colours since there are soooo many more factions in this game then in previous versions. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

FYI I am totally pumped about the many different factions in this game. Huge improvement I feel.

    Cheers

Ya, you must have had some difficulty distinguishing shogun 2 forces, as all the factions use the same troops, just different banners.
This won't be the case in Rome 2 though especially if you are playing a uni-cultural faction with a monopoly on that culture.

    And Welcome Selbs.

I have red green colorblindness and mix up oranges and greens in addition to red and green....also purple and blue However I agree with omzdog in that there is such a difference in the actual unit types

Are you referring to the campaign map colors, the units in battle, or both?

Kind of a bad picture but if you look closely slightly to the right and below the center of the picture there's a lonely red bannered samurai in the open space standing straight up turned away from the camera.
    You see that?

No I cannot tell the difference. In the original Rome I could not tell the difference between the borders of Rome and the Aedui It looked like one big reddish brown area

That's interesting, and I know its rude of me to state that you are interesting but I never considered lacking a dimension to my visual spectrum.
Makes me wonder if we have any deaf players.

That said it does seem like this could get in the way of commanding, especially online. Particularly defining colored veteran units and what part of the battle line is fleeing.

I agree, the colour contrasts on faction emblems are not great
Half my family is colour blind and my brother and cousins may have real trouble with this

KLA did this, credit to him:

Here is the old thread on this topic:

I'm so colour blind when i play Team Fortress 2 i only know who my enemies are by whether they are facing me, i got green/yellow, red/brown, blue/purple and grey/white colour blindness, (last one is just a joke) If i had a rainbow it'd have about three colours, so i more than most always appreciate any game that remembers us, with regard to Rome 2 the colours look very vibrant and different (or at least the shades do) so i'm happy with what i see, and as long as Hannibal doesn't try to attack by walking toward me backwards i won't mistake him for an ally, would be too hard to train an elephant to walk backwards anyway, even for the great Hannibal Barca! *...Hannibal promptly begins training his elephants to do the moonwalk.*

There was one screen showing arverni units, where the banner seemed like it was one colour. I'm red-green btw.

I am not colourblind but I can easily see how playing Shogun 2 with a red/green blindness is a problem. Green armies vs red armies on green ground with brown fortresses.

The armies in Rome II look very colourful in comparison. Especially the roman units (just like in RTW) are very colourful with their huge shields etc.

I don't think that CA has ever considered putting in a colourblind mode like some games do. It's just not do-able for the TW series. I hope you guys can enjoy Rome II, but I don't see this ever to be solved by CA.

That being said it should be fairly easy for people to mod faction colours to make them more distinguishable to you colourblind people. So i wouldn't worry about CA not having an official response, someone will make a fix for whatever type you've got.

Take a look at where the Aeudi meet the Romans. I cant tell if the Aeudi have taken all of Italy or if the Romans have taken all of GAul
Only way i found out was by reading what the guy had said under the picture about the state of various factions as he was playing Rome.

Where are the people with blue yellow colour blindness at?

Sail your ship as part of a fleet. Devs previously worked on: Darthmod, World of Warplanes, World of Tanks, RaceRoom, IL2-Sturmovik, Metro, STALKER and many other great games..

I have never heard of that type of colorblindness. People can also have monochromatic colorblindness, where they see in shades of gray, there is an island in the pacific where this mutation is common as it has been concentrated in the people that live there.

Blue/yellow is rather uncommon. Firstly to be red/green you can be deficient in either red or green, but blue/yellow requires a deficiency in blue alone. Secondly since the blue determining gene isn't on the X chromosome, it is a much rarer problem.

Well that is interesting indeed!! Red green is sex linked so blue/yellow would be autosomal. Very cool
