Default Romani govt and recruiting troops

    Hi there,

Love the mod but having an issue recruiting principes etc. Cities such as Patavium have a I govt but I can't seem to access the factional troops (e.g. principes). Likewise in Rhegium where the only barracks available leave me with Greek levy troops.

    any ideas?

After the Polybian Reforms (Own two cities in Sicily and two in Northern Italy) you'll get a slightly better army and you can recruit factional units in all of Italy.

just did some googling - looks like I am in the Polybian era and need to trigger the Marian reforms. An earlier question still stands - if I have Govt I in a homeland province how come I can't recruit the basic troop types (Hastati etc).

If you're in the right Era for those troops, then the only thing I can think of is that you don't have the Factional MICs up (or up to the right level).
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

If I'm understanding you right, you're under the impression that building a Govt 1 means you can build Legions wherever? if that is the case you need this.

thanks fro the reply - I've got all of Sicily. As for Northern Italy - how it this defined? I already have Bononia, Patavium and the one to the left on the coast (Segesta?). So when these reforms kick in I'll be able to recruit troops in all the cities with I Govt?

From the FAQ - Part IV Gameplay

Q: As the Romans, why can't I build factional MICs in X area.
A: The Romans can only build factional MICs in areas that contain Roman units. The area expands based on the reform level (see below). During the Camilian Era, you can build factional MICs in your starting cities plus Segesta. During the Polybian Era, you can build factional MICs in "Homeland" regions (Italy). During the Marian & Avgvstan Eras, you can build factional MICs everywhere, but have limited recruitment, based on the area.

Q: I just got reforms but I didn't get new units.
A: You have to upgrade your MIC in order to get new units.
