CA Developer Icon Using Total War Gameplay Footage

    Hiya guys,
I am sure that once ROME II releases, many people will be eager to produce their own content for a publically-available media or service (for example: YouTube).

Please note that there are certain guidelines that must be followed at all times when doing so.

Therefore, I have created a wiki page for those interested in using Total War gameplay footage to create their own content. I hope that it answers any questions anyone may have in the present and in the future.

You can find the wiki page here.

    Alternatively: http://wiki.totalwar.com/w/Using_Tot...meplay_Footage

    Cheers guys!

Works for me as well. Will definitely be recording some some gameplay once it releases.

Why not just follow Valve's policy on video content?

    http://www.valvesoftware.com/videopolicy.html

The current policy requires review videos, for examples, to request permission, which is silly IMO.

The problem is that the Japanese companies seem to be completely clueless when it comes to anything internet. Valve is smarter than that.

Well, atleast SEGA's policy hasn't reached Nintendo levels of absurdity yet!

Anyway, this is not a good move.

(I meant review videos for channels with subscribers, ads and etc, like Total Biscuit's. Which are great to let everyone know about the game)

TB will not feature Rome II on his channel anyway - he has been boycotting SEGA games for quite some time because of their policy regarding YouTube videos. Japanese companies (Nintendo does the same thing, and Square-Enix has just instituted a similar policy for FFXIV) seem to have problems getting with the times, at least as far as YouTube is concerned...

    So to be clear:
I first need to ask SEGA permission before I can make a Let's Play-series on my Youtube channel (if it's a revenue-generating channel)?

I don't think they'll sue anyone for making $ 10 on a youtube vid. That would not be good PR for them. I think the document is just some way for them to have a bit of control over what people do with the game. For instance: if someone uses the game's images to make a racial statements, it gives them the possibility to force makers to retract it. At least that's my guess.

For all i know this is just a ploy towards world domination...

But seriously. I wondered how many youtubers earn money of let's plays without asking for permissions. This policy is just a friendly reminder of what already is mostly international copyright law. If you make money of the content you produce you always need the rights or use non-copyright protected material.

So this is just helpful. Thanks CA/SEGA.
I dont think most youtubers even have explicit permission, I know a lot of them used to/avoid GTA games because of the music in it.

A lot more than 10$ for the stablished youtubers.

They will almost assurdedly not care if you do this. The policy is there so if you use the content to lie about the game or like someone else said, do something racist or whatever, the legal precedent is there to get you to take it down. SEGA is not paying someone to comb youtube for LP videos of a game since that is bascially free advertising for them.

What's this new thing with companies not wanting their game used in monetized youtube videos? Final Fantasy (what ever the one that just came out is) has the same restriction, it seems weird since youtubers must give games a lot of publicity.
