    Default Heir Succession System

I remember in some other medieval strategic games the succession system included features such as the following:

-Succession following the bloodline of the King (sons, cousins, brothers) vs. the random succession we see in vanilla MII:TW
-Unrest in the realm/kingdom/country for changing your heir to someone who doesn't have the rightful claim (you were allowed to designate anyone your heir)
-Laying claim to other kingdom's lands (full or partial) if your current king had rightful claims (as in, his mother is descent of a king of another kingdom who just died)
*^ This also happened to you if you married off your daughter to another kingdom

Now, I understand MII:TW is ofc another game. But through my brief search online I found a lot of other people were also disappointed with what the CA did to this game's succession system. I found some quick tweaks to try and address this put out by some fellow users and some modders, albeit all with their quirks.

I was wondering what the best recommended mod/tweak is (if one exists out there) to better improve the succession system for MII:TW, especially for use with Stainless Steel 6.4.
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-%28Updated%29 << This is the best I've found but it also seems to have its quirks and problems from reading the discussion. Can anyone confirm this is the best out there or that there is a possible/better alternate? Also, I don't quite follow what the problems they're discussing exactly pertains to.

    Thanks in advance!

Dont adopt, take man of the hour or marry non agent princesses.

Unrest in the realm/kingdom/country for changing your heir to someone who doesn't have the rightful claim (you were allowed to designate anyone your heir)
Well, it is hardcoded in Med2 that you cant change your heir.

Laying claim to other kingdom's lands (full or partial) if your current king had rightful claims (as in, his mother is descent of a king of another kingdom who just died)
    Sounds like CKII

If you want to manage your royal family better, you should also try out Royal Ladies of the Court mod + NHA. Additionally you might want to change the retirement age of princesses to something like 25 or 30, so all those non agent princesses disapear off of the family tree faster(this effects the agent princesses too).

I was under the impression that taking a man of the hour added him to your family, unless I read it wrong >.> .

I'll look into the RLC mod when I have time. I actually took a brief glance at it after following the link on someone's profile.
A question though if you don't mind my being lazy, what's the difference between agent and non agent princesses? How do you marry a non agent princess (I'm assuming it means they're not on the map?)

    Thanks for your helps btw!

It adds him to your family, you just read the sentence wrong, I meant that you dont do any of those things.

Non agent princesses are females born to everyone on your family tree who is not your heir or faction leader, you get the marriage offers at the start of a turn for them, which is pretty much the same as an adoption offer, when she gets married she accepts her husbands surname which makes it harder to keep the original royal family in power(if you like to RP, you will probably want to keep the starting family in power) because their kids can become heirs too.

Agent princesses are females who are children of your heir and FL, they become agents on the map once they come of age(14) and work as diplomats, but can also be married. I mostly use them to make marriage alliances since those are more stable then regular ones, you can also steal other factions family members, but if you do that the surname changes again. Most of the time I just marry them off to a cousin or an uncle, since there is no increased chance in your future generations to get the inbred traits from it(someone could make a mod for that) and it is a 100% chance that the marriage will happen when both are from the same faction. You also get the bonus traits from having a agent princess married to a FM (those can be bad or good depending on the charm and traits the princess had).

Sorry about that, I see now where I misread your reply haha.

It's unfortunate that we're forced to limit how we play in order to RP but I can deal with it.
    Thanks for your help

Sorry for bumping this thread back up. I had a followup question to what was suggested above, or was it something I read somewhere else? haha

I'm trying to marry my princess to my prince instead of searching Europe for another princess with stats equivalent to my princess. I hadn't even thought of it until I accidentally clicked my prince with my princess and the game asked if I wanted to marry the two. I exited the screen and now I'm trying to marry them, it won't let me. When I hover over the faction heir it says "no potential suitor". What's causing this?

And as for an alternate, how do you ever find a princess for your faction heir that's suitable in the darkness of FoW before they're all too old to bear any heirs?

The one thing that you cant do is marry your own princesses to your faction leader/heir, the game just dosent let it happen(you also cant marry brother and sister btw). If you want your own princess that can marry FL/FH you need the Royal Ladies of the Court mod.

In early game it is really easy to do it as almost all non muslim factions start with at least one, but in later game I find myself cheating a bit and just doing toggle_fow and not looking around at anything and just looking for a princess, when I find her, I make my diplomat go to her and just dont ever remove that route from him(aka set it and leave him unmoved at the end of next turns so he keeps going to her).
