    Default A few suggestions

    Here are my suggestions:

    1. Independent horse/rider deaths.
    2. Arrows that get stuck in their targets.
    3. Award of special units by the pope when a crusade is started (teutonic, templar and hospitaler knights).
    4. No 'upgrade units' like chosen swordsmen or armoured hoplites, I've read somewhere that when a unit's armour/weapon is improved there's a graphical change, that would be awesome since such units would no longer be required.

The only one I can answer is #3, when you enter a crusade you can indeed recruit special units and they stay with your army afterwards too.

As for #2, I wonder if they have done some death animations with bows as well, hmm.. probably not.

Its impossible to have a horse die without the rider. Its not going to happen. How do you control the guy without a horse? Will he run around trying to keep up with the rest of the guys on horses? Will it create a new unit card for that solitary unit? What if you already have 20 units? Its just way too big of a headache for CA to waste their time on.

It wouldn't be too difficult, just some different animations. There could be a few where the rider dies and falls off dragging down the horse and some where the horse dies crushing the rider. So long as eventually by the end of the animation they're both dead all is well. It is probably a detail they won't focus on though as it wouldn't add much to the game.

#2 would be a scrpiting nightmare, not at all feasible in a mass-produced game. Even if it was attempted, you'd end up with arrows stuck in shields in the same spot, while the unit may have been taking fire from their rear. The scripting alone would take forever, although it would be great to se,, I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

What would scripting have to do with an engine feature that has arrows remain in their targets?

I have a suggestion that would actually improve gameplay, not just the visual appeal. Collapsable bridges between layers of walls for castles with serveal walls.

Have your arhcers on the wall as they bring foward there siege towers and ladder, as they get near cross the bridge, destory it and start shooting at them again as they come onto the first wall.

Not having them would be a waste of time putting archers on the outermost defences. It woud take so long for them to get down from the wall and back on to the second ring.

Arrow death animations would be great.
Raining fire down onto a unit and watching blokes going down, clutching chests, legs etc would be great but i think you're right, 'probably not!'

I agree with that, there should be specific animations for arrow deaths.

I will throw my 2 cents in:

    1. Yes, that has always been a "want" from me, but the only problem is how the RTW engine handles the rider. For each horsemen, they follow a set of skeletons which correspond to a certain set of animations. If the horse should die, then the rider will have to be changed over to a new animation and new skeleton set because his height is now at ground level instead of being mounted. Programming this would not be too difficult if the change applies to all members of a certain unit, but to each individual solider would be impossible. Then if one of 2 men in a unit are on foot and the rest of them are mounted. How would that look in a wedge and even then the on foot soldiers could not keep up with the horses.

    2. This would have to be dealt with on each unit. You would have to get the right coordinate of the strike and maintain an arrow on that soldier after it has been hit. It would be really hard to keep track and constantly check for arrow hits and to put arrows on the ground and on the soldiers for any particular amount of time.

    3. As stated, the game will let you recruit some units like Fanatics in MTW.

    4. If I read your statement right, I think upgrading units so that some units are untrainable would force the game nicely so that you will not fight a bunch of outdated units.

    Just a question:
How does the time advance for units? Are some of them updated (not improved) when you reach a set year?
Is it dependant of the tech-tree? (like RTW) If it's the latter then it's a shame, I mean, did the Marian Reforms happen when the romans built an 'Imperial Palace'? Did they happen instantaniously to all cities of the republic? The imperial legionaries became available during the republic? I don't think so....

It's a game. Some of the things you proposing would take forever to code for an end product that wouldn't really add much to the game.

    1. Too compicated to code and it would hog system resources.
    2. Same as above, plus in a battle featuring 2000 odd men you arent going to be zoomed in close enought to notice guys with arrows in them
    3. During a crusade you can recruit special units like tuetonics and special giant holy cross things.
    4. Thats just an opinion, i would assume that a direct comparison would be swordsmen and chivarlous swordsmen.... im fine with that, just a matter of opinions.

Well, I actually play over than half of each battle zoomed in.... I want an intense, personal view of the battlefield since I'm no bird to be flying high over the battle...

Looks like most people like to be fully zoomed out, winning battles without even noticing the beauty of a TW game....

I like zooming in to watch the beauty of TW battles, but its almost impossible to win battles zoomed in. Zoomed out you can far more easily control your army and order it around.
