Default I'm not worried, but isn't it a little strange how we haven't heard that Rome 2 has gone gold?

The title says it all really. I'd be fairly confident and certain that Rome 2 will be released in little more than a week from now
    (18:00 GMT/UTC, 3rd September).

However, we usually hear that a game has "Gone Gold" around 10 days to two weeks before the official release date.

For example, GTA V is released on consoles 3 weeks from today, and they reported yesterday that it had "Gone Gold".

So, why haven't we had any official announcement that Rome 2 has gone gold yet?

I read on some game-site that the production of the game-DVD's began around August 1., so it must have been almost 4 weeks ago..

When they can keep working on the game after it's gone to be pressed onto disks, I guess going gold isn't the milestone it used to be.
Dominion of Dust. A city of sand. Built your world of nothing. So how long did it stand?
A 100 years? Now wasn't it grand? Built your world of nothing. How long did it stand?
What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Did yourself right, so let's feel grand.
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Now there's nowhere left to stand.

Yeah, especially with how easy it is to roll out updates.

I would say that in general, the marketing for this game, which is supposed to be CA's biggest title to date, has been quite spartan overall. They don't really strike me as having a proper marketing department or a marketing director. For example, the MP video was, in a word, amateurish. SEGA isn't doing their part either. It's all quite perplexing to me, because overall I think everything looks quite good.

Did he? I must have missed that!

I would think that, judging from the number of people contributing post both here on TWC and on the Official Forums that it would be of interest to
    us "consumers"!

Just thought it was a little strange that they didn't mark the ocassion. Even if only by putting a sticky on the official forum!

Do we ever hear of games going gold anymore? I follow of bunch of games and there is never a mention of a game going gold. It usually just comes out when it's supposed to.

Unless someone has seen otherwise. Please post if you have!

There have certainly been recent announcements for Splinter Cell:Blacklist and GTA V. Whilst the former is multi-platform (PC and consoles), the latter is currently console only.

Perhaps, in the age of digital distribution and downloads, "Gone Gold" announcements only happen for releases on consoles and have outserved their usefulness in the land of PC games!

Back in 1995 Software used to be built. Tested alot and then released finally into the market. But when there was a bug it was hell because to get a fix you had to flash it to a disk and ship it to the user who reported it. Welcome to 2013. Were we release a build and can easily patch every week. Fix this fix that. so sure there are bugs but bugs can go away within a few days. This is why steam is so good for developers and software. Web software as well. Its easy to update its easy to patch. Fact is on day 1 we will download or install the game. Then we will patch and play the game and 3 days later we will get another patch. at that point the game will be pretty much stable for 2 weeks for another patch. etc Each time some things will get fixed/balanced. Fact is all software today is worked on after its "done" There isnt a done. This is a good thing. I know people going to about this but its actually a good thing Because with a "done" game you have 1 bug that sucks like AI not crossing water. And it never gets fixed because you dont get the patch. But in our world devs can update releases weekly. Quality is completely independent of this system. It has to do with the individual members of the development team making sure that the things they build are high quality. /Rant

I assume there is no gold anymore with day 1. patches, game they are now pressing on DVD's is not intented to be played without updates, or it cannot be played at all.

Also reviews cant come as release version does not exist yet and beta previews they might want to avoid.

I don't think I've come across any mention of game going Gold. With that in mind, is there any reviews so far?
