Creative Assembly also plans to work hard on fully optimizing Rome 2 after it hits stores. "We will continually improve the game's compatibility, optimization and integral features such as AI and gameplay balancing post-release, and plan to add to that with new control schemes and additional free formats on other operating systems," said James Russell, the game's lead designer. Russel also talked about plans to support the modding community. "Shogun 2 is our most moddable Total War to date with over 500 user-made mods on Steam Workshop alone. We hope to support ROME 2 in a similar fashion." Total War: Rome 2 will release on September 3rd.

Game might be poorly optimized at release?? ugh...

Sometimes it's impossible to know what problems will arise until it hits the market. Doesn't matter how much testing you put into the game internally.

Blizzard games are some of the most tested games on the market, but they are also some of the most patched.

^In my infinite wisdom I skipped a day of school to play that game on release and ended up not even getting in till after dark. Lets just hope the only thing keeping us from playing RII on release is the (hopefully short) download time!

Many thanks to the good folks down at the Graphics Workshop for the sig.

According to CA's press release about that launcher with the mod manager, it won't require you to be on the net to start the game. Could be wrong though.

From the same article, I'm more interested in this.

Feature Packs, which will bring gameplay and aesthetic changes, and story-centric campaign expansions are also in the works.
Will we be seeing Kingdom's like multiple campaign like Caesar's in Gaul, Hannibal's, Invasion of Britain under Claudius etc ? Hope so.

Dominion of Dust. A city of sand. Built your world of nothing. So how long did it stand?
A 100 years? Now wasn't it grand? Built your world of nothing. How long did it stand?
What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Did yourself right, so let's feel grand.

No. I hope not. One of the most immediate and popular downloads for Medieval 2 was a mod to take all the units and buildings from the piecemeal Kingdoms expansion and place them in the main campaign game, and it was popular for a reason. I don't want to play little tiddlywink scenarios. I want to play a large, sweeping, epic campaign. Won't be paying for little Caesar mini adventures, but will pay for an entire, complete campaign, such as Fall of Rome.

That's...standard with every game release. Patches are always required. Even to this day StarCraft 2 still received updates and fixes and AI tweaks prior to Heart of the Swarm and Blizzard is known to be quite picky with their testing.

And if you use a computer you should be well aware that there are millions of different combinations with various hardwares which is why PC devs have to develop the game to encompass a wide range of rigs as much as possible. It's not like Xbox games where it's just the "one" machine. With PC's you have many variations and I'm sure a good number of people on this board have built their own computers with various parts and software.

That's just the reality of the computer world and why a lot of devs move into consoles. Console games are easier in general.

That's completely standard. They're just saying "We'll be patching it after release." This is something every game does.

Shogun 2 is our most moddable Total War to date...

I'm sure someone has said it buy now, but unless its perfectly optimised for every single possible PC setup in existence, there's always somewhere you can improve. Why do people always have to assume the very worst situation immediately without thinking it through...

These people fail to realize that the lack of major mods for Shogun 2 =/= they are not possible, there are just few people around willing to even use the tools (most just prefer to whine instead to picking up the tools to see what is possible).

However, trying to enlighten the ignorant around here is nigh impossible, and they will continue to tote their ignorance.

I dare to bet you've never even read about shogun 2's mod tools, nor peeked inside the database. Nor have you ever attempted to mod anything in shogun 2.

Are you just merely seeking attention? Well, InferiorBeing, here's your attention.

I wonder where all the fanboys are going to hide in IF the game is released buggy and incomplete.

You know that statement can be just as easily pointed the other way...

Also, what is it with some people on this sub-forum labelling anyone who is remotely positive as a fanboy? Just because some people would rather wait and see what the finished product is like without condeming everything in sight does not make them unreasonable nutjobs. Labelling anyone who disagrees with you in an attempt to discredit them is a particularly good way of doing the exact opposite and is particularly bad for giving your reasoning any credibility in any debate.

You can point it the other way around if you want, because I never jumped into conclusions in this forum, not positive, not negative.

I label as "fanboys" all the people who jump into recklessly defending the game, not matter the concern raised. Here, the guy that opened this thread, for example, brings a very valid concern, because a) it happened before (aka Empire: Total War), b) the game felt pre alfa just a few months ago and the release date didn't move an inch.

Am I sure the game will be unfinished? No. I don't jump into conclusions. Could it very well happen? Yes, since it happens a lot of times even with better companies than this one.

Personally I won't mind much if the game is unfinished at release, since they are going to patch it over time, but it would be annoying to be beta testers while paying an (expensive) full price of the game, plus all the annoyances from bugs, glitches and all that stuff.

I just find extremely hilarious to read posts after posts from legions of "fanboys" that defend the game and the company as if they were their families or something like that... As if they needed you to defend them. And accuse everyone else on "jumping into conclusions" when they do exactly the same stating that the game is going to be super fine, no problem.

For once, I will follow your advice, don't worry, and I'll wait until the game is out.

The second part of that 100% was not pointed at anyone, just me venting about people insulting each other instead of actually realising that their views may not ever agree. Applies to both sides of the fence as well incase I wasn't clear on that.
