    Default Steam Account Issue

    Hi all!

As Rome II is the next game on my download list, and I have already pre-ordered it, I thought this would be the best section of threads to post into. Let me know if there is a better place to be asking my questions, and I'll do it.

I have a pretty big issue with my Steam accounts at the moment. I have contacted Steam Support, and posted to their community discussion thread, and I'm sure I'll get official answers soon enough... I give it a week (-:

But, I have what I think is a unique problem. It appears that two different accounts now have the same email address as their "primary" or "registered" email. This is letting me log into one of them but not the other.

    Here's how it happened:

Through my university I had two email addresses. Let's call them bob@university.edu and bob@student.university.edu

Because I thought (was told) the primary email for one of the two accounts was going to be deactivated when I graduated and started working, I started a new Steam account with the second address (one the server said would stick around).

    Here's the problem:

The two emails merged. One didn't get deleted, while the other stayed on. The school did what it thought would be helpful and through a bit of gmail magic made them the same. Unfortunately, this means that I cannot get access to one of the accounts (to reset passwords, get a verification code - or anything else).

Thoughts? How can I resolve this?

Just start a new steam account and do not use a school email this time.

So you can log in on one account... What if you tried changing the e-mail of that account to something entirely different?
Maybe it will free up the abilty to log in with the other account afterwards. (Probably not though...)

So, thanks everyone for your prompt replies.

I can get in through my other account, Davieholgate, but it isn't one I use anymore. I thought it would be defunct when my email changed.
Kinjo, I normally would have already, but I just made the preorder purchase of Rome II via the account I'm having trouble accessing. In addition to the games already in there that one is still on the way.
Yes, I have tried the email verification or password-changing route. Didn’t come through. Just to check, I tried the retrieve lost account on my second account and it came through just fine.

I was able to change the contact for the account I don’t want anymore over to an otherwise unused address. So, cool... except that I’m still not getting verification for the first account on the original mail address, even post change. Great idea, but what’s next?
