Default new gamescom video and marketinng

Hey guys, I found this an decided to make a thread of it so it gets more attention. It's important because people keep asking about unit sizes. So, let's add this up:

20 unit armies: You can have more than 20 units. Many battles will. In the recent slew of screens from gamemakers.de we see the prologue battle for Capua. I counted the banners. The Romans have 36 and the Samnites have 20-something. All in one battle. In this video, from the Battle of the Nile (starts at 6:25), the player has 26 Roman units after landing his marines, the Egyptians have 17.

(edit)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTUDIcTE9uk for the direct link. Battle of Nile starts at 6:24

We also know the unit multiplier is editable. But what about transport ships??
Heir of Carthage's new video shows a Roman amphibious assault. Notice how each transport is now it's own unit. The cards say something like, "Transport, velites." Or "transport, Ballistas." "Transport, Veteran legionaries." This suggests that CA realized people will be modifying the script and scaling transports to match will create issues. So, one ship/per unit is probably the final answer. It can carry all the men, be it 40-80-160-450, etc.

Second, CA has made a point of improving the battles. So far, we have all been frustrated by the trailers. It's all been downhill since the Carthage walkthru, it seems. Everything is just about selecting a group and attacking with them. To make matters worse, everyone runs everywhere and it seems CA used swarming insects or rushing water as a model for the unit movements. BUT, PC sales are really low this year AND new consoles are coming out. Can you blame Sega, CA or ANY business for ensuring the success of their product? They know what we TW vets want, and they know we're already going to get the game. They need to convince brain-dead console fanboys that they need this game. So they play it like a console RTS. Also, with battles being somewhat fast, they scroll all over the place whereas I would probably use the Pause button for the sake of actually keeping battle lines drawn. Rest assured, we can still draw battle lines and set up order of battle according to the way we want.

What do you think? Am I too optimistic or does it make sense?

OH, another thing. That "leaked" intro was done like 2 years ago as a way for CA to show off some features of the game. It's not the real thing and it's not leaked. It's just old footage.

The leaked intro is a leak. I uploaded it to my channel and Craig from CA contacted me directly asking me to remove it because it had leaked early. He didn't say if it was the intro or just some random cinematic but he did say it was shown before they intended. So i gladly took it down.

okay, so that explains why it looks unvarnished. Perhpas it is meant to be the intro - but they haven't added any of the polish that makes it look better. At any ratee. people posting that they wish it would look as good as the S2 intro are crazy. OF course it will! This is Rome 2 and it will look as good as, or better than S2, not worse.

Does the reporter have a source or did he pull the info out of his ass? Because many of his claims sound ridiculous, especially ones concerning the age of the into.

Yes, i wish too knowing what are his sources. Especially about the transport ship problems.
For me, it seems a "bit" impossible that a single transport ship is able to host 450 men. Unless they are Titanic size (which don't).
Disclaimer: the post above is way way prealpha, the final version will be way better than this.

I saw it too, one single transport ships host 120 men (because we are on large unit size, but what about huge?). But you are claiming that it can host 450 men. Source for this?

Ah good eye but does that mean if say I want a 1000 man unit my ships are gonna be massive or what? to me this doesn't seem like it solves the whole increasing units

It's just his wish. There were no official info regarding transport ships and how many men can one transport. In videos with huge unit sizes there are 2 ships for a unit of 160 men - each ship carries 80 men in that case. So I too think that 120 is maximum for 1 ship.

Do you realize that the battles you're talking about are SCRIPTED? And the battle of Nile is HISTORICAL - it means that it's scripted too with fixed amount of units on both sides...
To have more units per battle in campaign mode you'll have to bring second army as reinforcements. I wonder how many times it will happen as now we got army cap and huuuuge campaign map.
But I do hope that game engine automatically assigns necessary amount of ships per unit.

C'mon guys, think! You can't have it all. Originally transports were meant to scale to the unit size. In the Carthage trailer there were units with 2 and units with three transports. Now, it's just 1:1 ratio. 1 per unit. CA can't find a better way to allow transports in case some guy wants to set his unit multiplier to 10x. Then what, 40 transports per unit? I think not! No, CA is going to use one ship per unit and all the guys will overlap. So you get all the men you want, but only one ship. And no, they don't have a ship model that makes the transport 882.5 feet long. It's a compromise and isn't realistic, but that's how it's gonna work. Also, yes I do realize the Nile is scripted and the number of units set. I think what I was trying to suggest is that so far we have only seen smaller battles because CA wants to set low expectations and then we'll all be happy when we actually play because we'll be surprised when we see larger battle).

That guy was pretty awful, he seemed to think he was playing starcraft. Although that seems to be a problem RTS games are suffering from recently, COH2 being the prime example, they are pushing so hard for it to be an e-sport that its ruining the game for the original players. It's all about cheap tactics and spamming, even cover, which was one of the big things about COH, barely matters anymore. Even on official live streams I've watched for maps and stuff you can hear constant clicking in the back ground because the ridiculous habit of trying to keep your aps high that people have started to carry over to other games.

Brain-dead console fanboys ? I didn't know PC gaming was such a snob hobby. You do realise this is a hobby right ? It has 0 connectoin to your intelligence level and honestly, if you feel smarter than the average console gamer because you play your games on a PC you probably have some serious self-esteem problems and should find other things in your life to be proud of. Stuff that matters.

At E3 the battle of the Nile was purposely sped up so that more people could play. I am guessing that gamescom was the same? They buffed unit speed and kill rate etc...I know they did it at e3, so it makes sense that they did it to you as well
