Hey guys, I found this an decided to make a thread of it so it gets more attention. It's important because people keep asking about unit sizes. So, let's add this up:
20 unit armies: You can have more than 20 units. Many battles will. In the recent slew of screens from gamemakers.de we see the prologue battle for Capua. I counted the banners. The Romans have 36 and the Samnites have 20-something. All in one battle. In this video, from the Battle of the Nile (starts at 6:25), the player has 26 Roman units after landing his marines, the Egyptians have 17.
(edit)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTUDIcTE9uk for the direct link. Battle of Nile starts at 6:24
We also know the unit multiplier is editable. But what about transport ships??
Heir of Carthage's new video shows a Roman amphibious assault. Notice how each transport is now it's own unit. The cards say something like, "Transport, velites." Or "transport, Ballistas." "Transport, Veteran legionaries." This suggests that CA realized people will be modifying the script and scaling transports to match will create issues. So, one ship/per unit is probably the final answer. It can carry all the men, be it 40-80-160-450, etc.
Second, CA has made a point of improving the battles. So far, we have all been frustrated by the trailers. It's all been downhill since the Carthage walkthru, it seems. Everything is just about selecting a group and attacking with them. To make matters worse, everyone runs everywhere and it seems CA used swarming insects or rushing water as a model for the unit movements. BUT, PC sales are really low this year AND new consoles are coming out. Can you blame Sega, CA or ANY business for ensuring the success of their product? They know what we TW vets want, and they know we're already going to get the game. They need to convince brain-dead console fanboys that they need this game. So they play it like a console RTS. Also, with battles being somewhat fast, they scroll all over the place whereas I would probably use the Pause button for the sake of actually keeping battle lines drawn. Rest assured, we can still draw battle lines and set up order of battle according to the way we want.
What do you think? Am I too optimistic or does it make sense?
OH, another thing. That "leaked" intro was done like 2 years ago as a way for CA to show off some features of the game. It's not the real thing and it's not leaked. It's just old footage.
