CA Developer Icon Showing off ROME II's new Tacical View feature

    Hiya guys,
ROME II’s battles feature an entirely new feature called the Tactical View. This enables players to pull the camera seamlessly to a satellite view, in which the entire sweep of the battlefield can be taken in at a glance, and movement orders can be given where required.

Using the Custom Battles option in ROME II, we’ve recreated three of the most remarkable engagements in military history – Pharsalus, Zama and Raphia – to demonstrate how useful the tactical map can be.

You can check it all out here on our wiki.

The question is: what famous battles will you be recreating on the 3rd Sept?

    Only 8 more days...

Thanks, interesting. Would be interesting to see how the Bai would manage Hannibal's tactitc adopted at Cannae, through this new feature it should be eloquently demonstrated

I wish people would really read... Nothing was changed, you can still give "movement" orders, but no "attack" orders.

I can see myself spending some time in this view. Thank you, Trish.
A great way of keeping track of enemies in your LOS without going mad with the camera and try to look everywhere...and still miss some enemies sneaking up on you.
    A very handy feature, indeed.
I personally invite you to check out my complete combat overhaul which will give you a completely new Rome 2 experience:

The battle of Cannae and the battle of Alesia are some that come to mind.
But there are a lot more that I want to play, especially battles where the odds are against you are cool.

    Looks really nice.

    Quote from the zama battle.
but Scipio ordered the horns to be blown and, panicked by the noise, the elephants recoiled and smashed into Hannibal’s left flank.

There will be any special abilities in the game to do something like this? Like the charging cavalry horns.

I would love to see the tactical map with 80 units on the battlefield

pointless feature because armies are too small. With 20 units on battlefield you can easily observe your army with normal camera.

Good job we can have 80 unit battles then eh?

I like the unit cards there, but I hope we are able to reskin them at some stage. Would be a cool little feature.

good point about the LOS...If i use this tactical view after starting the battle, will the ai's hidden from view units show up in this view or remain hidden?
If they show up on the tactical view, the new LOS will be a bit pointless?

Then I think it's safe to say that hidden units won't show up on the tactical view.

Nice feat and nice way to showcase it.

However, i can't help but being puzzled by the Ptolemies deployment in the Raphia screen. I wonder what are all those swords units ? Galatian ? That makes an awfull lot of them...
Also, where are the african elephants of the egyptian and why is their cavalry behind the infantry (if the units with a half colored, half white symbol are cavalry as they seem to be) rather than on both flanks ?

Even if it's supposed to be the deployment after the elephant clash, it's still not really how i have seen the battle depicted.

The deployment of the Seleucid is more understandable and the two other battle are accurate enough for both side as far as i could tell (and could be recreated with Rome's 2 limitations), that's why it puzzles me.

That is right. They wont show up on the tactical view as in the heir of Carthage prologue campaign battle not all the enemy's units showed up on the tactical map due to line of sight.
