Romans speak only english?

Roman legionaries will speak only English with a british acsent,will there be no option to have Roman legionaries speak latin as they should like its historically correct? All the recent Total War games starting with Empire had the various factions speak their native dialects including Shogun 2 then why is it that I have only seen Roman legionaries speak English while Empire had like 10 languages,is it such a problem to at least have latin as a optional langue as well?

Roman legionaries are english nowaday and, more than all, they're all similar to marinesjust joking, no latin Language inside. months ago I would expect some latin for main orders, just for them..none of this.

No, all nations units will speak English. Why this blasphemy no one cares about you ask? Because we only know one language from that time quite well: Latin. We don't know how they pronounced words, we don't know the other languages of the time such as Proto-Germanic, or any nonsense like that. It is quite impossible to do this and it would bring nothing to the game.

It's unfortunate, but then people would complain that the hellenistic factions have to speak greek, carthage has to speak, idk, phoenician(?), and the barbarian tribes would need to speak their tribal language.
I would have been fine, however if they would have added Latin for rome, greek for hellenes, arabic for eastern cultures and german, and french for barbarian cultures lol

I don't get it why there is such an expectation that TW games have to be 100% historically accurate? The whole premise of the game is to change the course of history.

They call Latin a dead language for a reason. It would take a tremendous amount of resources to translate every little bit of spoken text into Latin, while we don't even know how exactly they pronounced it, don't forget about dialect, etc.

Not to even mention all the other languages needed in the game, while ancient greek and maybe phoenician would be about as doable as latin, parsi is so coloured with arabic nowadays it would hardly be accurate and all of the barbarian languages are outright impossible to replicate accurately.

Arabic is not considered a native accent outside Arabia.
But even if they got it wrong, I'd consider it better than the British accent.

Throwing an optional clause to a feature doesn't exactly make it any less demanding in resources and time to make. If anything it makes it even more of an admission of wasting their time and resources and effort for a feature that few would use. And since Lusted has said that audio cues are used to convey information from the game to the player, then Latin voice-overs are even more problematic.

1) Costs aren't significant to include additional languages or language packs.
-They have the audio studio, they have actors, they have access to language dictionaries. Only need linguistics experts which are readily available as lingual trainers such as on movie sets or in this case academia.
2) It is a bit of work, but so is making a game.
3) If you want to know what people are saying read the subtitles while you learn some Latin or Celtic or Greek.

This isn't about catering, this is about being truthful with the history and not letting on to the stereotype that Romans spoke in British accents. If you're idea is that its not viable to do it in Latin, why not support the Italian accent?

1) Linguistics experts need to be paid for their work as well, even if you only use them for reference and use other voice actors for the recording. Rather than do all sorts of languages it seems that CA has just settled with English or local language support.
2) And this is not considered necessary for the game to work. Audio cues are used, henceforth any audio must utilize local language so the player can have some understanding as they interact with this game.

This game isn't about being truthful with history. It's about playing as a faction in a historical context to wage war. Haing some guys speak Latin is not necessary for that, nor would it be a tremendous cost to the game experience.

So while the idea itself sounds nice, that CA has valid reasons not to pursue this course of action makes any argument on this rather moot. As far as I am concerned, gameplay WILL suffer as a result of using non-familiar languages in a game that will rely on audio cues.
