Default How are you going to play Rome2 - localized or original version?

so, this question is directed at non-english people of course

if Steam/CA allows us to choose, which language will you choose?

i think i ll start with my localized language, then try the original english one after my 1st campaign. the german voice-actors were always pretty good in TW games but the accent can be a bit cheesy sometimes

Original ofcourse, here in Belgium we don't translate media that much, only cartoonish movies. And that's a good thing, believe me. Hearing the game 'op zen plat vlaams' would be quite disgusting.

Yeah I'm from the Netherlands, and we just watch everything with subtitles. I went to Italy and we were watching Wipeout in Italian and it was disgusting!

Yep pretty much, we actually never translate things like that. I don't know why, actually. Maybe it's because the language isn't romantic enough? But even if it was translated I would prefer the original, that's for sure.

Not only because it would sound disgusting and look ridiculous, but also because translating a show or whatever could mean a loss of atmosphere found in the language used. A great example can be found in the movie ET, where he would normally "ET phone home", dubbed to German it sounds like "ET nach hausen telefonieren". I don't think I have to explain why that sets off the mood. (no offence ofcourse to German speaking people)

Anyway, yeah, give me the original too. Never liked to hear something dubbed.

I know the spanish too. Imo is disgusting and unberable wacthing American/other foreign actors dubed in german, or in any Language. I always try to wacth everything in their original form, with subtitles, whataver is Japanese indi, Chinese, or tai etc. It doesnt matter. Whats the point of acting, when you cant hear what they are saying, is like cuting the original actor legs and replacing it with something else. I know acting is behond the voice, but voice acting still is a major important part of it.
You might end up with a diferent experience, what the original midia as intended too, you might end up thinking diferently of it. And imo that is intelectualy dishonest.

Luckly here in Portugal we dont have a habit of using dubs, unless for kids shows. And even that all of those kids movies like shrek and ice age, usual come with 2 versions on the cinema, the original suntitled, and the dubed one.

In a way helps to explain why people on this countries have some dificulty with foreign languages generaly speaking. Imo they should be more open culturaly. I went to France and people have dificulty in speaking other then French, Germany the same, but not on the same level though. In spain is the same thing.

Hey its not that is a big deal, im just saying it helps explain some things.

Localized. Shogun 2 French voice acting was so much superior to original voice acting it almost hurt me to set the game on english to play mods.
I have a hard time to belive that when the orginal uniti languages was japanase itself... it doesnt get much better or realistic than that.
If you talking about the cinematics, i honestly cant say wich is better they are equaly silly, full of stereotypes. again a samurai speaks japanese not english or French

I am mostly talking about the advisers voice acting and cinematics. They are so much better in French. Really I can not stand the stereotype accent used in English. In French the accent is almost non-existent imo. FotS use translated language for unit too but I have yet to try it in French (I have just bought the game thanks to Steam sale).

I agree with you on this point.

But I would not say it is matter of "cultural opening". It's just that we are used to translations for every media. theses translations are economically viable thanks to our populations and the ancient colonies still speaking at least partially in French. But there there are original version with subtitles for movies (generally the opening casting of films are in original language). And I am under the impressions that young people prefer more and more to use original language (at least when its in English).

By the way TW is the exception rather than the rule for me (with recent Bioware games). For example I started to play Skyrim in English first, found the voice acting great, moved to French version (some books were a bit tiring to read in English, I was able to understand them but it required extra-effort I was not particularity willing to offer when playing), was shocked how bad it was and decided to return to English version for good.

Often the translations lose something even if it is only the quality of the "speakers". So definitly the original.
Yes In germany most media is translated, but I seldom watch the translations. Most translations are not as good as the original.

Like 50% of what i read, hear and see throughout the day is in Swedish, the rest is in English. And the English bit comes from every piece of media i encounter during the day. So it's not really a choice, it comes natural to play games with English speech.

Original. I'm used to play games in English since a long time before. Also, Rome II is not localized in my native language.

    Depends on the audio quality.

Which in itself means that I`ll play the original.

Never heard a synchronisation that beat the original in terms of quality.

In my case it doesn't really matter because voices will be in English regardless of version so I'll probably choose Polish text/subtitles. I may change back if translation turns up to be too confusing. (I can't vote yet)

Original as always, I never play games with my language, the original is way better.
