Default Dismounted cavalry formations! ... but

Was very excited to see dismounted cavalry will be a feature in Rome II, but the only thing I didn't like is the spacing in their dismounted formation. In the Game star vids the Roman equities when dismounted were in a very loose skirmisher formation just like the velites. I wonder why CA choose to not just do it like they did in Shogun 2 were the dismounted cavalry had the same nice tight orderly formation of the infantry?

How do you know that might just be their default dismounted formation, and they can change to a tighter one?

I don't, but it is certainly different from Shogun 2. I used dismounted cavalry quite a bit in both single and multiplayer... The only reason I can think CA put them in skirmish formation is to make the formation look bigger and to maybe make them last a little longer in melee.

Not sure If I care really, for myself. I rarely if ever dismounted to me its a extreme disadvantage for the type of unit. And if I did it would only be an extreme situation that horses could not be used. As in that naval invasion if I can help it or have the option I would not bring Siege or Cav units into a fight off the ships engagement, I would land my force away from a battle on the campaign map then advance them to a battle so I can use all my tools. If I have to unload into a battle I will hope to have left the siege stuff and use those extra slots for fighting men.

If you do attention in the video of gamestar, the fort's one, you can see dismounted cavalry regruping in a line formation but you can't see a lot because the player move the camera

Well they are not skirmishers either so they shouldn't be using a skirmish formation when they engage on foot in melee especially if they are armed with spears and shields.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's most likely something CA missed. It was ok in Shogun 2, it will be in Rome 2 as well. I wouldn't sweat, mate. I noticed this too but I knew it was just a mistake CA never noticed.
I personally invite you to check out my complete combat overhaul which will give you a completely new Rome 2 experience:

Hope that was just an older build and it will be fixed in the final release. The only bad thing about modding the db tables is you have to redo it after every patch and shogun 2 had over 20 updates.

Couldn't you just have a back-up and overwrite the files of the new(est) update? :o

No not if you want to be using the most uptodate db tables. Pretty much every pacth/update includes a new db for the units and Rome 2 will probably have a couple hundred cavalry units which means you would have to edit each entry after ever update :s

Not Necessarily...Many if the mods I use are still based on Patch 15-16 (FoTS Patch) and it runs fine even after Optimization Unified Patch...

If you are using a mod that includes the entire units db table it would be out of date the moment there is an update that includes a new units db. Sure it will still work but you are running with the older version of the table and won't see any new updates that might have been made to the units db.
