Default What about another direction ??

It's been ages that I come back to the forum. After few TW games recently, I've been wondering instead of making the game more eye candy, toy like and too detailed, why don't CA just focus on making the AI better, implement more feature & enhancement in politic & diplomacy, etc and most important, make the battles bigger. Anyway, if it's for zooming in & looking into the beauty of an individual, I'd play a RPG, not a TW game. Remember the old time, when I started with STW, it's mainly because of the big scale battles compared to other games at the time. For the now, TW games just became merely another commercial product which try to sell more by offer more eye candy stuffs. IMHO, the game had lost its cause and went into the wrong direction

I feel the same way except insert American Civil War where you have Victoria. But I bet you and I will both have hoot playing their next release, which I would bet money on will be Total War: China. Lots of copies to be sold on that one I reckon.

    ?
Had you played the other newer ones? Not sure about battle getting bigger, but one could mod it, easily.

Bigger unit size maybe, but larger army size definitely adds to the epic experience of the game.

TW Rome 2 has improved in nearly every way. I fail to see peoples' arguments these days. Every game has an "eye candy" aim to it. It's how you get new players.

Considering the massive jump from Shogun 2, if Rome 2 don't impress you, may God help you, because CA obviously can't.
I personally invite you to check out my complete combat overhaul which will give you a completely new Rome 2 experience:

Here we go - another fellow "veteran". I feel you mate! The reality is - they don't see it as an Art anymore - it's just a way to make money with the help of fancy graphics and loud words. but I do know that everything goes in "circles" so one day we'll get a piece of Art that will blow our minds away. I feel like it might be the last TW game for me for a while(10 years).

No. I consider myself a veteran too but I simply can not jump on the complaint waggon despite the fact I see lot of things to be improved too. Look at all the other big PC franchises: Need for Speed (dying), Command and Conquer (dead), CoD/ MoH (Multiplayerkindergarten)...
GTA and TW are the only two remaining (that come to my mind atm) that still managed to keep their "flavour". Iīm grateful for that. You simply must not forget that despite all the passion and love from our (the gamerīs) point of view that these guys are running a company here, that they have bosses too and that they have to face a harsh financial reality every once in a while...

I loved STW when it came out. I played the demo of it for months and raged when they postponed the game for months. Ever since I went totally nuts over every single TW game up to Empire. I loved Empire for its campaign, but I had played the napoleon total war mod for medieval 1 and knew that line battles were pretty stupid and didn't allow me to outfox the AI as much. Then they came around with Shogun 2 and in my opinion it is a great TW game, but it almost has too much of the old Shogun. So I actually am a veteran looking forward to this next installment of the series I love. It's not like they took away any of the old games. Go ahead and play your mind out in shogun 1. But you don't. Because the new ones do look better, even if you claim you don't care, and they play better and deeper and are done with more care to detail. In the history of the TW series we never lost a single feature except assassination videos and titles to give your generals. But we have been given loads of new stuff with every title. And as they got better they got more attractive to more people and to me as a fan that is a great thing. If you would have told me, when I was ridiculed as a teen for playing that "stupid Shogun game" too much, that people in the future go over this series I would have loved it. And to this day I am happy for everyone who joins the family of TW gaming, for the games are great. But I really don't get why you complain and moan about one of the few series in gaming that hasn't gone bad and all that under the veil of being "veterans". Well guess what: You never like TW for what it was and seem like a bunch of hipsters that don't like the game anymore because everyone thinks it's cool now.

Thank you! Its true we've never lost any features in the series that weren't horrible to begin with. (seriously, castle/town thing confused the hell out of me) Just because the game is becoming more simple does not mean that it is losing features, it just means they are easier to use. Shogun 2 has the same depth that Rome 1 has. I can't name a feature that Rome 1 has that Shogun 2 didn't.
