Am I too naive for wishing that the "in-game" intro they showed us is a feint and that they will release an awesome CGI intro for Rome as the one they did for Shogun 2?
Is it too late to dream?

I like gameplay intros, more than out-of-engine CGI intros, as they set the scene and give you appropriate expectations
No-one can deny how epic and exciting the Rome1 intro was, with the Pelennor Fields recreation intercut with Carrhae
The CGI ones were appropriate for the age of gunpowder, to make it dramatic and include the political dimension, I'm a little ambiguous on the S2 one, it was a promo trailer as well as the game intro so it seems like it was a way they cut corners
The ones with gameplay intros:
RTW
BI
M2TW
Kingdoms
The ones with out-of-engine CGI intros:
Empire
Napoleon
S2
CGI intros are obviously a trend with newer games, but to be honest, I haven't experienced an improvement in how exhilarating I find them, quite the opposite

This goes to show the youth of gamers on this site, and that using 'obviously' is synonymous with not really knowing a topic. The very first game in the franchise, Shogun (1) had CGI leavened with in-game, and the game after that, Medieval (1) had a -very cool- CGI intro. No, CGI intros/non-in-game-footage intros aren't a trend in new games. They've been around since DOS, and some of them are so artfully done they're legendary amongst veteran gamers.
Isn't the whole game CGI from the moment you click start?
You mean a video intro? Or more specifically some sort of trailer. Ya, that'd be cool but not dissimilar to all other TW games.
the intro they showed is probably the campaign intro, the game intro may be cgi.
CGI made by more powerful engines does break the immersion a little bit, when you expect the game to look THAT awesome and you start it and, even if it still looks good, it's not the same. Having said that, it still looks amazing, so I don't complain too much.
I don't know, i've been watching cgi intros since Age of Empires 1 and they did not break the immersion for me, all but the contrary, they set the mood. I don't think no one expects the game to look like the CGI intro.
I think most of us have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Rome 2 already, i don't think a CGI intro would change that =)
I saw the intro at the San francisco event, it seemed like in game footage to me.
It would be nice to have a CGI intro, yes. The game may not look like that or even play like that, but damn if they aren't awesome as hell regardless.
I guess? I mean, how many times do you actually watch the intro? The first time? Then you just skip it and play the game?
Thank you for showing me the question mark?
I prefer an intro video made with the engine. It's just a lot more immersive and it fits better with the game itself. The Shogun 2 CGI trailers were great, but they felt so different than the actual game.
It is a CGI intro trailer (It was leaked)
The intro was leaked a few weeks ago...
IT WAS AWESOME
ok, someone pm me the leaked intro please!
fear is helluva drugSpoiler Alert, click show to read:Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
have they shown anything cgi this time? i dont think so. the hannibal part was a bit cgi but very short and nothing special. the other stuff was all in-engine and the 1st trailer was a live-trailer
seems like they dropped that cgi thing altogether this time. no agent vids, no cgi intro and no trailer
dont want to complain though. just saying they set the bar really high with the Napoleon and Shogun2 intros. Nappy in particular was total badass
and Shogun2 was Blizzard & Bioware quality
An intro would only further slow me down from playing the game.
I also want a CGI intro. It reflects a polish to the game, and when it's lacking it cheapens it. You know, it doesn't even have to be CGI; they can even use a movie like the first Rome II trailer. But just using in-game units and animations is cheap and uninspiring. We're going to be interacting with these same units for hundreds of hours of gameplay, after all. Many post an uninspiring 'meh, I never watch them' type of comment. But I, for one, do watch them. For the same reason I go back to a good movie I've seen a dozen times. They most definitely create a finer ambiance and put one in the mood. Alas, it looks like we won't have a CGI or acted intro movie, or we would have seen one as a promo by now. I call BS on those saying there was a leaked CGI trailer.
