    Default Unit size adjustments.

Happy to learn how easy it is to increase unit sizes in the preferences file. I'll settle for 400 men per unit

I don't think that any CPU would be able to handle those numbers. Only if you like seeing 15-20 fps while zoomed in. But maybe few years from later...

400 isn't that big at all.

Have u tried setting the multiplier in S2 to 1.5 or 2? fps go down to 20-30. I have 3930k@4.6MHz and 2 gtx 680's. I doubt that in R2 it will be any better

400 men/unit will cause issues and bottleneck even the best CPU's out there if you wielded multiple full army battles. Not to mention the pathfinding issues with a 2.5 multiplier.

I plan on using a unit multiplier of 1.5 for my campaigns (assuming there aren't optimization & pathfinding issues)

    NEVER!

Of course my good man, should be as simple as changing a text file tho

It will probably be a trial and error experiment to see just how big I can go until I run into problems. Gotta find the perfect sweet spot of scale and performance. Whats your rig look like?

thanks man. ok dont get angry at me, but i have a laptop. But it does have a 8970M card and a 4700MQ haswell in it. I can overclock it all to hell because its cooling system is pretty good.

i can ultra Crysis 2. Dont know about Crysis 3.

That's a good GPU for a laptop Hanz. Same power as the new Nvidia 780m in the Alienware laptops. Should be able to run almost everything on max. may have to tone down a few things especially if you'll be increasing unit number counts though

    Go to C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Rome2\scripts

    Open preferences.script

    LLook up for :

    campaign_unit_multiplier 1; # campaign_unit_multiplier <float>, Set default unit multiplier for campaign #
    naval_fleet_multiplier 0.75; # naval_fleet_multiplier <float>, Set default fleet size for battles #
Change 1 to 3 and your legionary of 160 men per units will become 480.

Hopefully people get the message, that if you use smaller sizes in multiplayer lag won't be so bad and people won't randomly drop along with quitters.

Did anyone notice that the maps in TWR2 are much larger than in ETW/NTW? That means it'll be much easier to maneuver our custom sized units.

Ya, not to mention you won't be deploying your men in a line formation, but rather waves.

Are you sure? Jack said the battle maps in Rome 2 are 2km x 2km, the same as Napoleon and Shogun 2.

About increasing unit size, i think that'll be not so easy (speaking about problems they may bring) as people think...
The info come from the last bar event says that they have chosen max 160 men per unit for problem regarding naval crew/transport ships and problems about the limit of men that can find place in the walls...
Disclaimer: the post above is way way prealpha, the final version will be way better than this.

I remember that in one of the interviews CA said that people with high-end machines will be able to see up to 32 000 men on a battlefield. I wonder if it's true or just an advertisement... I wish that someone from CA would speak on the matter...

It will have massive lag. TW games hit a CPU bottleneck even on normal unit sizes, even with the fastest processors in existence OC'd to the max. There have been many, many threads about this on these forums.

Again the unit sizes are not adequate. Some day we'll have a Total War with actual army sizes.... some day.
