Looking for step by step assistance in editing unit stats only

Can someone point me in the direction, or post, the steps for editing the unit stats in ETW? I've looked at several tutorials, but they're so old that the steps have changed (i.e. the recommended PFM is replaced by DB Editor). My only goal is to edit 2 or 3 units for the GB faction, nothing more than that. But some of the PFMs give me errors when trying to extract the files, or whenever I save the edits to a mod .pack file, so I'm wondering if someone could help me out with the basics.
