    Default The Omens

Just a quick question thats probably slightly off topic for Hegemonia... but I was wondering if anyone here, be it the Hegemonia historians or otherwise knows of any decent books that I can use to research Ancient Greek omens and portents and their practices for divining their meanings?

    Thanks guys.

The best source for what you are looking for is the History of Greek Nation which was written by Greek academicians and archaeologists (Volume 4 or 5, I can't remember for sure). This is an encyclopedia that covers all the history of Greece from ancient times until now but I don't know if they have translated in english yet though. It covers with every detail all aspects of Ancient Greece (military, politics, religion, battles, science etc) so if you are able to find a copy of the english version I'm sure you find what you want.

If not, try to find a book which focuses in religion of Ancient Greece and in more particular about the Delphoi Oracle which was the most important one at the time. I hope that helps.

Thanks. Did some shopping but I couldn't find the book. I got four books from Amazon on the way now. Magika Hiera: Ancient Greek Magic & Religion, Magic Witchcraft and Ghosts in the Greek and Roman Worlds, Greek and Roman Necromancy, and The Greek Magical Papyri in Translation.

Ought to get some info there I'm sure !!
