There are 173 regions on the Rome 2 map (you will hear the number 183 a lot but that is from a typo one of the CA devs made when announcing it) which is much more then Rome 1 had. The map also goes further north (includes Scotland) south (includes Arabia/Axum) and East (includes Bactria) then in rome 1 and has 117 or so factions on it (more then the 20 for rome 1)

It's nearly twice as big, Rome 1 had 104 provinces and Rome 2 has 173 areas to conquer but 57 province groupings to make management easier. It includes areas not in Rome 1, such as Scotland, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Southern Egypt (all modern names for Caledonia, Arabia, Bactria and Nubia)
It is more detailed in almost every area, the notable exception being Greece, where there are 2 fewer towns (Thermon and Corinth are gone)
It also has far more factions, 117, so an accurate representation of tribes and nations of the era, compared to a grand total of 21 in Rome 1 (and four of those were Romans, and one was rebels)

If you want a faction summary, someone (I think TotalWarZone) made this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...maWZPbnc&gid=0 with 116 of the 117 factions (he accidentally left out the Cessetani)
And if you want a map with all the details you could need (that is interactive and not cluttered) here it is: http://maps.totalwar.com/rome2map

You counted those annoying buggers as a Faction? I simply think of them as the infanatly more annoying CA version of barbarians from the Civ games. I was so glad when ETW removed their constant spawning

I once made peace with the rebels in Rome 1 when a rebel diplomat spawned
    Now that was weird!

Not actually a bad name if CA got some competition in this genre.

thanks a lot for all the infos!

I always deal with the old Rome I as standard measure for a good map!

104 provinces so seemed to me so a big amount of ways to expand my domain, but 173!

thats a great work done by CA
