    Default Seleucid starting position

As much as i love historical accuracy, i quite like that the seleucids start quite small.
In EB its a bit of a pain starting with such a huge landmass, expanding is the most fun part of the game so i look forward to battling my way east with my favourite diadoch(i?)

    What do you guys think?

I am pleased that they will be so soon playable and free that I care less for their starting position.
The potential is far more interesting than the accurate size of the faction. That is that Seleucids should have some bonuses to expand to hellenistic ruled-hellenistic rebels early on-be it military or public order bonuses. With their potential should be established as an empire by fighting both mini diadochi wars and Easterners.
They will be quite a campaign!

so unless you want a massive diplomacy penalty the only option for expansion is overseas or south into egypt? interesting, wonder how the A.I will handle that or will it fall out with all of its neighbours and get rushed from all sides

Do we know if there is going to be any way to absorb your satrapies peacefully?

With the possibility to direct your vassals' troops for a combined attack, it may be a more viable strategy to just keep them though... provided they are trustworthy this time.

as far as i remember (feel free to correct me if im wrong) there is no option to absorb peacefully. Its either continue on with them as vassal or else just be a dick and attack them, i think this will cause issues such as you being boxed in by allies

Or do whatever you can to lower your relations like attacking people they like, thus they betray you and then you rightfully annex them

I would have liked to have a peaceful option though. Seleucids and Carthage begins with annoying vassals next door - I have nothing against satrapies or client states but they make more sense on the outskirts of your empire. As previously said it means if you want to expand east as Seleucids, you will have your satrapies right in the middle of your territory. I guess the best option to avoid ugly borders is indeed to make more satrapies east, trade with them, and then expand "personnally" south and west.

my day is actually better for learning that, cheers haha

With regard to vassals i think it would be cool that if you had really high relations with them, and say a much better economy.or maybe if their faction leader dies you could inherit/absorb their land. Or if their was an option where you could pose an ultimatum of join us or die type thing.

Do we know how much control we have over or vassals/satraps/client states?

I imagine (and I think this is why they are delayin the faction's release) is that, dillema boxes that come up for other factions will come up for Seleucids, BUT will have more to do with their "Satraps". Example. :If Judea, Palestine is in one of their vassals) "The X are getting to be upset with how your satrap rules them, and may revolt" Then you'll have options *Pay X money to make the people happier* *Repress them with a larger Town Watch or harsher restrictions* *Destroy their Y Building as a sign of worse things to come* and the last option has a 50/50 chance of backfiring into a revolt, and the second to last has a 25% to make the people less happy.
This is probably not accurate, but would make for an interesting way to diplo-annex satraps with dillemas.

Yea, im glad they didn't start with alot of regions. They are still one, if not the biggest starting faction though. I guess you will start with alot of vasals, and i don't think they will be as stupid or backstabbing this time around. Also, you can sign a non aggression treaty or something, saw it in Jacks Macedon lets play. So i guess if you make them sign that, aswell as being your vassals and have a positive view of you. Seems like you would be pretty safe that way, and the vassals armies could come inhandy

You may have a small central block of directly controlled areas in Syria, but this faction will be tremendously rich because, as vassals all the seven factions that are their Satrapies (http://maps.totalwar.com/rome2map to see that they make up the whole of the Seleucid Empire in EB) have to pay tribute while the Seleucids don't have to pay the costs of governing and defending them. They will likely be one of those factions that can steamroll their enemies because they are so well funded

i do find it a bit strange that they seleucids dont own seleucia when they didnt lose it for well over 100 years after the games start date, i can see their units being very pricey to a balance them

I don't like the fact that they've been downgraded so small.

But I like the fact that they're finally in the game.

And besides, even if its small, you can just go to Seleucia and conquer it, lol, by that time you'll have restored pretty much the rest of the Selecuid Empire by its name sake.

Oh and also waiting for a mod to show the Selecuids in its full scale, I wouldn't mind anyway. Either way, if you play Vanilla Selecuids, you're reconquering everything, which is awesome.

And for Mod Selecuids, you get the whole Empire but getting a similar EB experince more which is double awesome.

I would like it more if you get all your cities from the start and then you lose them in the first turns coz of rebellion or treachery.

But, since they will be playable, i have no right to complain
