    Default PCgamesn.com new article

I just spotted a new article on PCgamesn.com. Not much is new here, except that when you play as a Barbarian faction and conquer "civilized" regions, you may adopt local advanced technologies. For instance, you can build triremes which are better quality than barbarian ships.

    Enjoy!

Acquiring foreign technologies as one of the barbarian factions is a really nice feature.

Will be interesting to see how much stronger certain mediterranean factions are compared to some barbarians, how big initial cap has CA dared to make as there is always a risk of cry if someones favorite faction is behind the others.

CA makes the EB mod seem irrelevant with all of their history slander. They make it seem as if strict history isn't fun when in reality it is especially with the proper uniforms and accuracy.

I dont think total war would be fun at all if it was a history sim. What they are getting at is you can change history, if it followed history and you played Carthage you would be doomed from the start.

They are getting at the "what if" dream that most arm chair generals have.

If total war was a history sim that followed history 100% I wouldn't touch it. Living out the fantasy of conquering half the world is what makes this fun, not dogmatic adherence to history.

I don't agree with using the term authenticity as opposed to accurate, but "plausible" and "feasible" are perfectly valid terms that explain why they are diverging from strict historical accuracy. Plus they know modders will make the historically accurate mods FOR them.

On a more positive note, barbarian factions looting new technology through conquest sounds like a plausible explanation for how they acquire advanced navies. There should be a cap on this kind of acquisition, at least in the short term, but over the hundreds of years of game time you should expect development. Remember that Rome itself acquired plenty of new strategies, technologies and learning from the so-called barbarians and "effete" easterners.

Good find friend. Without people like you this forum would be a very boring place

Thanks for the great compliment. I wonder what other technologies the Barbarian factions will be able to "steal". Better quality fortifications? Better roads?

To be fair, that's your opinion. I for one am a person that vastly prefers gameplay to history, in fact I would buy a TW game even if it was based in a fantasy setting and enjoy it just as much, but that's my opinion.

For instance, I thought EB was incredibly boring with the amount of history and 'realistic-ness' it shoves down your throat. That doesn't make either of us wrong. Different strokes for different blokes. To me, strict history isn't fun.

Indeed I'm also really interested in this! I hope they can steal the basics like walls, etc, but I wonder how far the Barbarian "enlightenment" can go. Obviously it touches on some units like ships, but how far does it go for other units, or whatever? Well, soon enough we'll find out
