    Default Population growth

Why do all my cities have a negative population growth. I downloaded the new patch and it made it worse. I have the largest faction with no poeple in my cities. Is that a bug or was it done that way intentionally? I cant make an army and I cant retrain my one army i do have and my cities will never grow this way.

Well look at the timeframe its not as if there was a baby boom!
I have several cities on negative population but have to do this to bring in the cash from taxes. **** happens! If it was easy everyone would be complaining

You have to build land developments, playing as Del Raida (sp?) I have developed the land in all my cities as much as possible, and im getting about 1 percent growth on high taxes. Its still very tough, all my cities are just smaller towns too, so i have to wait until they get to 6000 pop to upgrade the land again, which will basically never happen, because it would take 100 turns at 1 percent growth, and taking into a account that I am still recruiting from them. Unless you start out as one of the few powerful factions in this mod it is very hard to expand.

Download the 0.61 Patch. I reworked the pop growth control mechanism! It's true that the depopulation in 0.60 is too much, especially for the AI!!!!

In 0.61, minimum growth is 0% with normal taxes. In most cases its around 3% with some basic buildings. So its really important to downlaod that little patch.

In my game as the Jutes I noticed many of the cities in the South East around Kent have Wheat and Corn as a resource and I have no problem with the city growth, actually its almost growing too fast, I guess other parts of the island just historically did not have the same amount of food available.

yes. economy (and probably growth) is going to be reworked again. The Germanics seem to get lots of food import, which is annoying hardcoded stuff. Nothing i can do about that. The question is, if the population growth should be reduced again only to make a few starting provinces more difficult. I'm currently brooding about that and i'm sure i find a btter solution.

    Cheers

The patch 0.61 made poulationgrowth 3-4% lower in all my cities. (on my save games that I have tested). I thought this patch would improve population growth? Great mod btw, thanks a bunch guys for making life better for the rest of us :-)

As Mumainha I focused on farms early on, and now I'm gaining population way too fast. I have a city at +9%, with most of them around +5% and over. Half my cities are revolting due to squalor - even the ones with fully upgraded great halls and aqueducts. The only thing I can do really is wait for them to revolt and then exterminate the populace, which rather sucks when I would rather focus on conquering instead of babysitting . Fighting squalor that you can't control is never fun, reminds me too much of vanilla RTW.

If you notice there are some cities which already have food as a resource, either cows or wheat or corn or whatever. I would not reccomend developing farms for those cities unless you are ready to see your population growth sky rocket, because they are normally already getting a big bonus from excess food.

Actually I look for cities with food resource when I am thinking about what to conquor next. In my games after a dozen turns they are the only places with any population left.
I used to have a quote from George S. Patton about the Russians, but I guess some might have found it offensive.

Well swabian actually I have been playing a few different factions, when I get bored with one i switch to another then come back to it later. But I have noticed playing as Connact, Ynis Manaw, Del Riada, that I ran out of people very quick if i wasnt very careful, so in those instances I was definitly looking for a city to conquor which had food as a resource. Also, have been playing the Jutes, but in that case its not a problem, because many of the cities in their starting area have food as a resource.

In the next Update, population growth will probably be between 2% and 5.5% with normal taxes. So there will be constant growth everywhere. The infrastructures that provide increased popgrowth will play an important strategical role. Grain as a tradable good will be removed. It needs lots of testing, thats why there will be no fix or sth. We hope to be able to publish a new patch in 2-3 weeks, but nothing is granted.

Playing as the Kingdom of Ynis Manaw i have to say that i have no real problems with this discussed population growth issue. All my town have an anual growth on high taxes between 1,5 up to 2,0.
If i have to recrut soldiers i am forced to lower the tax rate. But almost all my men are mercenaries. But maybe its harder for the AI to handle that issue; it prefers to recruit lower class infantry (Aulue etc.) from their main cities and suffer under this drain of population.
Is there an way for more balanced AI armies? Most time they are build from cheaper and crappy units; almost no mercenaries or elite soldiers.
