I just downloaded NTW2, and I gotta admit its the best mod I ever played, the quality is amazing, and they done lots of things I have never seen in any other mods (gatherable buildings, for example), RTR and EB can't even get close to NTW2. If anyone haven't tried the mod yet I suggest you download it right now! The only bad thing is no single player, whats probably why it isn't as popular as the other mods.

for me its very difficult to choose one i like aspects of all the ones ive played i love EBs details but i like how TE feels like vanillla should have done.... RTR gives me lots of fun when i play it Blue lotus is just so different....

I've tried all the major mods, I believe, except EB (waiting for version for 1.5).

Of the major mods, I like TE the best. It seems to be the most balanced and doesn't try to do too many clever things. It just does everything well. Good map and skins too.
I used to play RTR alot - but got tired of the Macs owning every campaign and also RTR has quite some battlefield lag compared to the other mods. The AoR system is very good though.
SPQR has excellent skins, excellent atmosphere (music, extra touches) and is great fun, what put me off it bit after a while was always fighting armies composed of 50% or more elite units with silver chevrons. Takes away from a realistic campaign and battle feeling. And of course, it concentrates mostly on the Romans.
Darthmod is good, but I never felt too much difference from vanilla, and the skins aren't the best out there, IMHO.

My favourite "mini-mod" (although it's now large enough really to be called a major one, I reckon) is XGM. Like TE, what it does it does extremely well, and it makes playing with or against the Hellenic factions much more interesting, while still keeping the core vanilla intact (tweaking it of course for better battles, campaign and more realism, plus adding a bunch of new, great units). Plus the two guys making the mod and running the mod board are fine and helpful fellows.

For BI, I like the Goth mod the best, as it improves battles, campaign and realism well, adding or modding a bunch of units. The new skins for BI are very good on the whole (I've tweaked the Saxons a bit for greater realism though).

Also very good for BI is the Arthurian mod - very well done, loads of attention to historical detail and lots of new units. Plus a very interesting and unique campaign. (I helped on the research and beta-testing a little on this mod).

Just my two cents... everyone has a different opinion on the mods, and different expectations on what they want from a mod, and they are all worth playing and much hard work has gone into them. Big kudos to all the modders out there :-)

Personally as I played Ntw1 for long (And Atw also as soon as a campaign was developed) I have no doubts that Ntw2 must be overall the better Rtw mod, yet as it didnt include (and never will) a full playable campaign and I only play offline I had to pass over it (waiting eagerly for MIItw and NtwIII).
About the mods I tried and played for Rtw, (all mentionated on the poll, btw) I cant say wich one is the best as all gave me lots of fun to play with.
Still if any mod manage to suprise Me over the others then Blue Lotus it is.
