Can I play TW games via LAN with one game copy?

Straight forward question.
I have two decent-enough computers to play Rome 2, but the notion of having to fork out twice just for the odd occasion when a friend comes round to play some TW (I'm not as lucky as many of you guys, I get paid out for loving TW games so much, and just about none of my mates care for RTS!) is outrageous. I had to buy BF3 twice so my dad can play, which was crap, cus all previous BF games allowed you to have multiple soldiers.

Aaaanyway, I'm sure there is a way to do it, but I want to know if there is a legitimate way? If there is a more complicated work around, I'm aware it can't be discussed here. If someone could PM me with some nondescript clues as to where I should go to find out, that'd be appreciated.
We shouldn't let the days of LAN and in-house multiplayer die out. Then the console will win!

From my previous experience with steam games like Civ5, it is possible. You have to launch your game in offline mode. Launch steam under your account on another PC, change your profile nickname, then launch the game in offline mode again on the second PC. If Rome 2 has a LAN option, it SHOULD be available. Again this is based on how it works in Civilization 5.

I'm reading stuff on forums saying that Steam has restricted offline LAN for many games. Are there any other workarounds known?

This is the only work around I've known. That would be a shame if they disable offline play. I remember playing killing floor there was another work around, I cannot remember it though.

Rome II or Total War games in general ? As far as I know there has not been LAN option for TW games since Empire so most likely there's no option for Rome II also.

The irony of spending more money on 2 computers than most people would on 4 or even 5 then being too cheap to buy a second copy of a game for a second person who wishes to play it... is hilarious.

There has been LAN for every total war. why would there not be?

Or, One computer could be mine, and the other could be my dad's. Futhermore, one of us likes TW games, the other likes only Microsoft Internet Backgammon and Battlefield 3. Why I would buy two copies of one game to be used in one house, on one steam account - now that is... as you incorrectly put it: - hilarious.

Anyhoo, I guess we'll see in two weeks time now, won't we.
