    Default Horrible FPS problems

Hello all, I've recently downloaded TATW and MOS 1.5, I really like the mod. However playing it is pretty much a nightmare. Almost any battle causes horrible fps drop. In vanilla Medieval 2 I play with everything on high, except for a few things that I just turn off in any game. And I have no problem in that at all. Then again, a big battle there is a pretty small battle here. For TATW I see the same performance no matter what my settings are. I've even lowered the resolution. Still very crappy fps. My specs are:

    i5-3470
    HD 7870 OC edition
    8gb RAM
    Seagate barricuda 1TB HDD
    Seasonic 620w PSU.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Test other games and see do they also freeze during gaming. Your i5, how strong is it (GHz) ?

None of my other games freeze. The only one that ever did that was Red Orchestra 2, but once I downloaded a punkbuster update (on my own accord, the game itself never prompted to do so) it hasn't done it again.

    There is a FPS Booster here: ( http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...21#post5403021 )

Also, do you have Windows Vista, 7 or 8 perhaps? If you do, have you disabled UAC or edited security for your main M2TW folder BEFORE installing TATW?

I'll try that. Well, mostly the 4GB patch. According to one of the posts, the OP states that the FPS booster will more than likely not help newer CPU's. I'll still give it a try though and hope for the best.

I have W8. I did edit security before installing TATW.

So after trying the 4GB patch, it feels a bit better. But I still feel like it's a lot laggy than it should be. Considering I've got the majority of the settings really low as it is. My fps stayed more or less the same as before, only thing is that it didn't freeze now. But this was barely a 3k man battle.

Did you have any recent Windows Update, or update of your GPU ? If you did, maybe reverting to previous version would fix the issue ( use System Restore point ).

If you didn`t have any recent updates, maybe update your GPU and test again.

No recent windows update that I can think of. As for GPU, I'm using the newest driver update which is still in beta. So I'm not sure about that.

Well, you can check this thread ( LINK ) and use some of the programs mentioned there ( Advanced System Care is good , and CCleaner.. ).

Hmmm. I have a few of those already.

I think I may roll back my drivers real quick and see if I have any success. I do recall that I was having a bit of trouble with vanilla Medieval 2 for a bit right after I updated my drivers. So, maybe.

Yeah, I had problems with some games too after updating my NVidia card, reverting back to previous version fixed it. You can always update it again if it didn`t help with this issue.

So umm....now when trying to launch Medieval 2 it states "This application isnot compatible withe installed operating system. Please upgrade to Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 or better". And says that even when I run compatibility mode -__-.

What did you do, updated your GPU, or Windows Updates ? Did you restart your PC ?

I rolled back my graphics driver. And restarted. But I have since updated it back to the current one. What I'm going to do is:

Revert my AMD driver back to 13.1 instead of staying on 13.4 (from what I've read the past 20 mins, a lot of people have been experiencing fps problems under this update.
Reinstall Medieval II considering this is the only solution I can think of to fix the new problem that has shown up.
    Follow http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...How-to-install .

Though I'm not really sure what 1.5 patch to choose. I purchased the game on Amazon and it shipped from the UK, however the summary on the back of the case is in English and Dutch. Which leads me to believe I should go with the EU patch.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to do any of this until later today.

Well, if you are going to reinstall M2TW, then do it like this:

    1. Uninstall it by using Control Panel / Uninstall Programs,

    2. follow these instructions to be sure to get rid of Registry leftovers: LINK.

    3. Insert your CD/DVD, close the AutoRun Setup, manually go to your M2TW: DVD location, and right mouse click setup.exe and Run as Administrator..
IMPORTANT! This time install M2TW/Kingdoms somewhere OUTSIDE of Program Files or Program Files ( x86), maybe in C:Games or similar.

    4. You don`t actually need 1.05 Patch to play TATW, but if you want to mess with that, then it is a Trial and Repeat procedure, for example, you have UK version, but the correct patch is maybe US GOLD etc.. ALL PATCHES ARE HERE: LINK. You will know which one is the correct one when you don`t get an error message during updating to 1.05 version. BUT , again, it is not needed for TATW.

    5. For TATW installation, you can use these installation pictures here: LINK.

    Good Luck!

Well...it's been a little bit better. But if either side has over 2k people is starts lagging just as bad as before

Well, you can try and use this Large Adress Aware or more than 2 GB of RAM Usage Patch as explained here: LINK.

Turn shadows off and see how that goes.

I tried the 4gb RAM patch and it didn't really do anything. But I'm trying the Large Address Aware right now.

    I always turn shadows off
