Play as a minor faction?

Will there be a way to play as minor faction like Rhodes, Etruscans, etc?

I think this would be a fun option to have.

Unless CA has some inbuilt "protection" against unlocking factions through modding then you'll have to pay for it, and even then I don't tink either Rhodes or the Etruscans are going to be released for years, if ever.

OT: if its true what CA claims then yes you can mod unplayable factions to playable. its not so fast as it use to back in the old days.

Oh but I do expect it to be possible given their claim, but ultimately it's just words waiting to be proven.

They did it for Shogun 2, the first total war with DLC factions, where factions weren't even remotely different. So of course they will do it for Rome 2 where its obvious there is a massive emphasis on DLC factions.

OT: I plan to try and unlock the Demetae before I even start a campaign, very tempted to make them my first simple chilled out test campaign before going on to take the reigns of Rome. If its even possible that is.

They did it for all factions. You couldn't unlock a single faction in Shogun 2 or it tripped anti-piracy coding.

As the creator of the faction unlocker mod for Shogun2 I thought it was clear we are talking about a subject I am quite informed about. You clearly are not.

From what ive seen of diplomacy so far it looks like CA is ditching the Major/Minor diplomacy split (whish i never liked cuz sometimes a minor faction like wurtenburg would conquer all of france and still be minor) but im sure mods will comeout allowing all factions to be playable (albeit with less depth then the onces CA focused on and made playable)

Shogun 2 faction unlockers unlocked factions before they were even announced as DLC's and DLC's came out for some of those factions: Ikko-Ikki and Otomo are the two big ones.

Basically, CA is cool with modding as long as you don't unlock any factions, or add any units which might resemble something in the DLC, or change the models, or add animations.

But anything else is good.

However, when CA releases a faction it adds a lot more stuff then a simple unlock does. I'm expecting that the DLCs for Rome 2 will be Culture packs, as opposed to Shogun 2 where it was a simple faction unlock. Rome 2 has a lot more factions/nations and I'm thinking by the time they are done developing Rome 2 DLC they'll have probably 90% of the factions released.

Yeah. I just don't see any fun of being able to play all these insignificant factions with their generic phalanxes. Where on earth is the fun in that? So I'll leave it up to CA to make them a bit unique
