    Default Unit cards getting cluttered.

I allways liked the unit cards since I saw them but now Im concerned that they will be all cluttered up as we play longer and units level up.
The chevrons are taking space on the image of the unit now.
Another bad thing is the yellow color that Pontus got interferes with the gold.
I have no problem with the greco-roman design per say but they are hard to look at now.
I know that CA intended easy on the eye cards but now its just the opposite.

I really hope this is still work in progress.

    What do you guys think?
Im being to old or you see it too?

    EDIT:
Our own Vastator made some cards a few threads back.

Yeah..I'm never going to like the unit cards. There are literally a hundred symbols in one card, and all the cards look so freakin' alike. I'm going to have to figure out which card is which during an important battle and most likely lose. Gaahh

Why didn't CA just make it simple..

I don't think it will be hard to distinguish which unit is which once you try out the new unit cards. Even different levels of pikemen have subtle differences in their unit cards that you can use to differentiate them.

I hear you mate, not a fan of the cards at all! I guess this was the quickest and cheapest way to make unit cards instead of taking pictures or drawning for each of them.

Well the thing is that they were going for this look to simplify things.
They said it in a preview.

Yep however it could be simple and beautiful =/. Something doesnt have to be complex to be beautiful and practical. It's not a major disappointment or anything but still I always expect the best from the best.

We aren't going to play a "find what's different" mini game in the middle of the battle.

And really who needs an icon showing that a unit is a spear or sword or range unit when there is already a HUGE spear or a sword or a jeveling in the picture.
On top of that at the same time you have a picture in the middle showing you the range unit is shooting with the same icon that is already showing that that is a ranged unit.

And don't even get me started on the bar instead of numbers. No one will ever manage to make a convincing argument that a bar is better then a number in a Total War game.

This. I am really puzzled by CA's decision. There was NO need to change the style of the cards. NO reason at all.

You don't have to do it in the middle of a battle. You can familiarize yourself with the unit cards while on the campaign map building an army.

If you're talking about SP then I might as well pause the battle and take time to learn looking at pictures and memorise 700 units worth of unit cars. OR you know, they could make unit cars that are instantly recognisable and I can play MP from day one hour one.
Just a crazy thought, tossing it out there. I mean it's not like every other Total War game had those.... oh wait

I do find it hard to quickly know what I'm looking at with these new cards. Maybe I'll get used to them, but I can see myself getting a little frustrated, because I'm used to getting the info in a second, and not trying to figure it out.

Indeed but they cannot be bothered to free up space for unit speed so don't except more options.

I would love to stick with Rome 1 cards which were the best of all TW games.

Actually I do, because these unit cards contrast with the additional symbols, whereas in the standard Rome 2 unit cards everything is in the same style so that you'd actually have to look for them to notice them. And differences between units are also easier to notice than in Rome 2's current unit card designs.

For me at least this is good enough (quite good actually)! Not only visually but different sizes also help visual association.

Not gonna lie, I highly prefer CA's cards over those. They just don't seem to fit in the screen, but then again, I'm a sucker for simplicity.

CA's cards are 10x better than that. Does anyone really want cards of mismatched size with pictures of Random Bob the Reenactor Photoshopped onto a horrible background? To me, the biggest downside to these new cards is having a bar instead of the number of troops remaining, but I think I can get over that. As far as different units' cards looking the same, I usually select my units on the battlefield itself instead of trying to find their unit cards. If I have multiple groups of units spread out, I'll need to use the cards, of course, but by the time any fighting starts, I have them grouped how I want. If I play for a week or so and really have a hard time distinguishing different units or figuring out what each unit is doing and/or how they're faring, then I'll call the cards bad.

We should also note the info box that pops up to the left of the unit cards, which gives you all the numbers you could ever want. In conjunction with the cards, they work; if there were no info box, I wouldn't like the cards as they are now.

Bob the reenactor, lmao. But yes, you're right. People need to understand that there has to be a degree of design to the game. Now I'm not saying the current cards are perfect, because they have their flaws. But having these odd 3D highly detailed figures on a small card with a Miami-vice background is just odd. Sure, you'll see the difference well, but it looks unprofessional.

Vastator's overhaul is much, much better. The colours are toned down and some changes have been made to distinguish cards better. Personally, I don't really care anyway because I choose my units on the field too.

i just love the fact that the normal ca cards look like the artwork from greek vases.

i mean they add their own style to the game and i don't like the use of 3d models (or something that represents them) for what is clearly supposed to be drawn.
