Question about Pontus faction

If I preorder rtw2, but I am not able to download rtw2 on the first day will I still get the faction?

You'll receive Pontus regardless of when you download the game.

pretty sure its a free DLC available at any point after release even without preorders

You don't need to do anything beyond downloading the patch (which is done automatically) in order to be able to play as Pontus.
