I also hope they did some great optimization so it won't lag with multiplier at 2

Yes, I'm pretty sure this is still possible like it was in Shogun 2 and previous Warscape TW engine games.

This method has issues, particularly with anything that has crews.

I heard somewhere unit size also depends on what unit. Not every infrantry unit will have 160 troops, there will be some variation. Not completely sure though.

Correct-O. Someone posted a few screenshots some time back and they showed several units hitting around 270, I believe. They were not good units or anything. I think it was militia hoplites? For some reason that unit is coming to mind. But yeah, there are certainly units that are much larger than 160 on huge.
I personally invite you to check out my complete combat overhaul which will give you a completely new Rome 2 experience:

No, actually it's not false. You will find units that hit numbers up to 270 or something. I'm guessing you never saw those screenshots then.
160 is the average unit size on Huge difficulty. That's the size units will be focused on. There are lower quality units that exceed that number.

I think what you were referring to Dog was a screen from the campaign map?

If so it was actually 3 units of 90 men each and not actually 1 single unit if you go back and look at it again.

As far as bigger units I wouldn't hold my breath on it but we will see in less than 2 weeks

made account after lurking for years on this just for this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-WusyFuRKs Video shows large unit size. Roman cavalry with 60 units and Triarii with 120. Then also right next to them merc cavalry with 80 units, and Italian spearmen with 160. Taken from the prologue.
