Icon4 Strange Rome Total War pricing !!!

Just like many of you I am huge fan of total war games and bought all of the total war games and I really want to buy Rome 2 as well.

Because of its price I decided to wait a little bit then I saw the Turkish Language option in game so I decided to pre order it then I found a strange detail....

On steam game is 113 TL = 59.9 Dollar

On retail stores in Turkey its 90 TL =47.3 Dollar

How is this possible I mean the boxed version is much cheaper then the steam version.

The price of the box version price is the sum of these....

Game + Dvd + Box,cover etc + Shipping Cost + Retail Store Profit + Turkish Distributor Profit

The price of the steam version price is the sum of these....

    Game + Steam Profit

How can this happen please somebody explain it to me ?

Retailers price items differently all the time. And Sega and CA do not set the final retail price. If Steam wants to sell it for $60USD that's their prerogative. As you said, the price on Steam is the base price plus their mark -up. So the steam mark-up is higher than retail store mark-up. That's it, nothing special.

CA is not the axis of evil I put CA in this cause they are the ones who make the game but according to the second post this high price is because of evil steam I guess...

By the way the amazon price is 27 euro = 76 TL so this means that steam is stealing more than 40 TL from me damm !!!

So price is getting up and low I am really curious about the base price of the game because it seems like more than half our money dont go to CA !!!

I dont hasitate to spend my money CA deserves it but steam for me its not that important %80 CA %20 Steam is oke for me but %50 %50 is a stupid deal...

Other retailers know that they need to lower the price of the game significantly to compete with the convenience of buying a game from Steam which will be available at launch, and you won't have to wait for the box version to arrive. Another reason could be that your specific retailer's product does not include the Greek Cities DLC.

These differences are pretty common. In my country almost every game is cheaper in retail stores than on steam.

But this is insane steam is earning %80 - %90 profit from each game !!!

Edit: I hope the guys in CA saw this I dont hesitate to spend 59 dollars for CA but if half of it goes to steam then nooo waay !!!!

Why in the hell they are allowing steam to put this kind of a price first place also is steam that important they can easly launch their game online by using sega servers this is not call of duty after all we dont need steam that much...

I would suggest if you have a large group of people representing some company coming to your house and stealing from you, call the police.

No one is forcing you to buy this product from any particular retailer. It's a choice. They have every right to make as much money as they can. They exist to work, earn profits and money to provide food and shelter for their families.

50% markup is quite standard for all stores. Big stores have lower and really small ones have larger.

They're not stealing your money, you're giving it to them willingly in exchange for a product. If you'd rather purchase it elsewhere you are free to do so. In Australia a lot of retailers sell the game for around $90, Steam has it for $80, some other retailers have it for $70...and if I pick it up from overseas it comes down to as low as $45.

My guess is the Turkish store pays lower wages, lower sales tax and probably lower everything else. From memory I think Turkish wages are about half that of Italy. I'd have a look at Bulgaria, their wages are much lower than Turkey's.

You don't really have an idea how the world works don't you?

It is not CA or SEGA demanding that steam sells their games for full price at launch it is the big physical distributors (wallmart, amazon, best buy, etc.) that put the presure on CA and SEGA to keep the prices in steam store high because else they are afraid they cannot compete and will boycot SEGA games.

I know many of us would then probably have the opinion that CA should just ignore these idiotic neanderthaler companies from the stoneage but as a developer you really do not want to risk that. Losing for example best buy or amazon as sellers of your product will pretty much demolish any hope of making a record selling product

STEAM can charge 100 dollars for it if they want.
The cool thing with a market economy is the freedom of choice.
And the sad part is that you have no clue what STEAM is.

*facepalm* Steam is not "stealing" anyones money.

In fact even if they wanted to ( Popably not ) they woulnd't be able to just sell TW:RII ( or any other new game ) at lets say half the price and undercut all the other retail stores.

It might just take them out of busniness and bring a giant shirtstorm over valve. They tried it in the past with the result of other stores taking Steamgames of their shelves.

Steam take 25% of the value of a sale from what I've read. SEGA value the product based on estimated sales / total amount they need to make, so for SEGA to make as much money per game in a retail store as they do through Steam the price has to go up, the amount it goes up by is the amount Steam will be taking off them. Take 25% of Steam price, that's Valves cut, you get retail price. That's how I've always seen it.

i believe steam doesnt actually set prices compared to traditional retailers, but the publishers do.. publishers also get a bigger cut when selling through steam.. other retailers dont mind cutting into the margins for bigger sales though
