lol dude, why are you so offended by the idea that italians have often dark hair and nicely tanned skin?

you should be kinda proud, since it s usually considered as very attractive. what do you think why all dem ladies in the world love italian men?

This (nice) woman is a Parliament Memeber of the 'Popolo delle Libertà', the political Party of Silvio Bersulsconi, her name is Stefania Prestigiacomo and she is Sicilian 100%, as anyone can understand listening her (interesting) Sicilian accent; anyway Stefania Prestigiacomo belongs to a family of Sicilian entrepreneurs, a former President of Region Sicily, Santi Nicita is her uncle.

    Wiki source.

The black Romans by CA are only one of the clear signs of an incoming crap game, it's a clear sign of the total historical inaccuracy of the new game by CA, it's one of the reasons why looking at this 'Masterpiece' by CA I feel only the deepest disgust!

What can I say if not repeating the words of Brando in Apocalypse Now: 'The horror! ... The horror!...' because actually IMO Rome 2 is the Horror itself! It's pure and disgusting horror!

.... and they are asking me 54€ for this horror??? ......

Just to clear it up for you guys. This thread is not abot how tanned modern day italians, sicilians or Proms family are. It's about black people in the Roman army. Antique Roman does not equal Italian.

Anyone here know if there actually were black legionairs? If so, should CA represant them in the game?
In game?, imatation Numidian legionaries could be so depicted.

In history, Lusius Quietus is one example of a black rising to command rank.

I think ultimately we can all probably agree that while, yes, there may well have been some sub-Saharan Africans who found their way into the Roman legions, their numbers were more than likely few, and not enough to warrant inclusion in-game, because doing so would mean you would have every Roman unit with one sub-Saharan African appearance, which would quickly make their numbers soar from what they might have been in reality.

Lusius Quietus was a Berber...hardly a sub-saharan African, which is what people generally think of when they hear 'black'. Just saying.

Pseudo-Aristotle argued that the Greeks were an ideal people because they possessed a medium skin-tone, in contrast to pale northerners and dark southerners.
Psuedo-Aristotle was an author mistaken for Aristotle (original), but text analysis shows the Greek used belonged to a slightly later period.

Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!

We all have the right to say whatever we want, freedom of speech it is called, you have that in Italy too right ? As long as we refrain from insulting or in some way or form being racist, all is fair-game. So let's see... ITALIANS ARE TANNED/DARK BECAUSE ITALY IS HOT AND SUNNY. Got a problem with that ? Nothing racist nothing insulting.

some people need less of and more

and to add something on topic...my common sense tells me that there must have been some black people amongst all the millions of folks in the roman empire throughout history and that some of them might have joined a legion.

there is no way to prove this or disprove it so arguing about this is pretty pointless besides wasting time until the game releases and what does it matter anyways.

Oh and throwing around big words doesn't make you look smart...

This thread is somehow useless. I am sorry for the black fans of Total war but Megasalexandros has a good point those times were much more barbaric and ethinccentralised to be tolerating multiculturalism archeologist recovered some written evidence refering that other non-greco-roman races were inferior. The world wasnt like now back then there wasnt globalisation and all those people were very racist and direct, I can be 100% sure that if in the city of Rome they would see a black man walking around and think he would be a slave...

You must be realistic , it s like a white man alone somehwhere in africa those days the black people wouldnt even know what he was where he came from. Aristotles the teacher of Alexander the Great tought him that all non-Greek races were inferior and shaould be dealt with...

The world is hard and you have to be realisitc and think about people those times.... Just so you know people became each day more tolerant historically.

    Looks legit.

Well, as the descendent of barbarians i'd rather have faced some puny Italic man than a big ol' Nubian.

That's true, they forget a prominent roman family the Binus, everybody know this great roman consul called Caius Albonga Binus, the true father Julius C., as someone note in the game he is black to. PS: Another group of roman legionairs recruits are embarking right now somewhere in libya coasts and will arrive to Lampdusa in few days.

Of course there were black legionaries. Duh
Although, probably not so many as to warrant representation in the game. something for modders to do later.

It is funny how we have people trying to convince as that ancient Rome was something like an ancient New York city, others that are defending historical truth and then the typical anti racist globalized politically correct out of nowhere comments saying "you have no right to complain about skin color its racist", and then the even more hilarious statements characterizing RACE as a "concept" while at the same time the concept of "antiracism" is being upgraded as the measure to which they think we should tune our arguments.
I think that the thread is rapidly evolving into a racism "antiracism" debate , we all know were the administration is going to tend to, and it should be closed as pointless for a pc game.
