Default Installing Rome II from disc ?

    hi guys,

I've bought the hard copy with a guarantee that it will arrive before release so im not worried about getting it late.
however ive read this on another forum :

is there any truth to this statement, because i had bought the hard copy in the hopes to avoid downloading from the busy steam servers

my question is that if i am installing the game from disc, will the busy steam servers affect my installation ?

It'll depend on a few things
    * If it will install from disk at all (sometimes a disk is just a redirect to Steam)
    * If there needs to be any data downloaded from Steam (sometimes they put 99% on the disk and the last 1% on Steam as copy protection)
    * If there is a 0-day patch (as often bugs are fixed between the moment the disk is pressed and the release date)

And apart from all that, of course you need to activate it through Steam

i dont think so. it hardly happens anymore and there re plenty of other games released on Steam every month

also, you can always change your download region in the Steam settings. if your default server is busy just try another one. there re many to choose from and one will work

All the game data will be on the disc, what wont be there is the game activation (will require Steam/online connection), the Day 0 patch (also Steam and internet) and the DLC. You'll be able to install the 35 gigs from the disc, so there should be minimal internet usage on your behalf. You don't really need to stress about slow servers etc.

Mostly not true, pretty much everything you need is on the disc. You need steam to regis. the game to your account, perhaps download some of the data not present on the disc to complete the installation. It just mean the process will take longer than it should, that's all.

My guess is no you can't install from the disc. 30gb would be 7 discs. I can't see them shipping 7 discs.

if thats true then the hard copy is pointless, why would Sega spend money on it ?

Rome II is 35GB, im pretty sure each disc is dual layer which can hold about 8.5 GB, that should make it 4 discs in total.

Shogun 2 had 2 discs and 15.5 gb out of the original game was on the discs and with the day 1 the games size came to about 16gb

this thread shows how to install shogun 2 from disc, im expecting rome II to be similair

The entire gold edition of Shogun 2 was on 2 disks. That must have been about 30 gb?

My question is if you DO get the disk early, can you install that 99% of content early just like the digital steam copies???

You can always override the default steam install. If you pop in the disc, and it starts downloading, put the disk back in the PC and select "install from disk". I've never seen a hard copy that didn't have the data on it.

Yes, you could do that. Or, you could just do this:
