Icon5 Help needed, laptop for university

Long story short, I need a laptop for university.

I want to use it for watching media and work (Microsoft office). I wouldn't mind being able to play games as well, nothing flashy mind i.e. FTL, some old RTS games ect.

This particular model caught my eye for cost and seemed to fit the bill, http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...=1&s=computers

The amazon pc above satisfied the criteria and seemed very reasonable. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone had a better alternative however

Also i'm under the impression amazon is the most cost effective site to buy from, please correct me if I'm wrong.

It would be the first laptop I've owned so I would bow to you guys infinitely greater knowledge of the subject

for college I would try to look at the entry enterprise level line, given your very low budget, thinkpad edge, dell vostro and the hp proboook series.

why you ask, because that acer is known for not having a good quality, let your first be something that at least lasts in one piece for more than a year, with notebooks the guts is just another something that you look

i dont really have a reference regarding which site is the cheapest, look around the various retailers and try to find something

ok, I had thought Acer were fairly reputable so that's good to know.

Supposing ram and processor speed are the most important attributes would 2.4ghz and 4gb ram be good enough what I want or is it worth spending more money?

    thanks btw rep+

ram always the more the merrier, and cpu speed isn't the end of all things

aside that I would always go for an i5 on mobile at least, since it pack turbo boost and HT, which the i3 doesn't.

acer is fairly reputable as a garbage producer, not as a good company. they have been trying to change that since ivy, currently their only good notebook is the ultrabook s7, which in turn doesn't have a good battery life, which is essential for ultrabooks.

entry level enterprise class is a better bet that the notebook should last

just by looking at lenovo site I can find the e335 for 335 quids, I positively sure that you can find better offers on entry level enterprise if you look for it
